"The Trial"

Chapter 15

I completely froze. I could not believe my eyes. How can my dead daughter be sitting in front of me? My mind has to be tricking me. Wait my brain cant trick me I don't think. Why is she here? How did she make her death fake? Is this just a way for the hospital to get inside my brain or know my weakness? No I will not let this happen. I will completely shut myself off until I can figure this whole thing out.
"This is your roommate Ashlynn. She is very young as you can see. She was sent here by her father after she attacked him. So Ashlynn please be nice to your roommate she is just as crazy as you and twice your size she can easily take you." The nurse waited for a response for a few seconds then continued "you need to put on those clothes on your bed and hand your clothes to me when you're done. You aren't allowed to have your own clothes in here you can only wear what we provide you. Fail to do so you will be punished. No one likes punishments, so just do as we say and you will be on our good side and you will be able to be out of here. Isn't that right Ashlynn?'
She had looked over to Ashlynn while saying that. But she just continued looking out the window even though there where bars over it. The she acted as though no one was here and she couldn't hear anything. She was in her own little world. The nurse did not like this. She was actually really mad about it. I don't understand why I mean she could have done worse. By now she could have stormed out of the room for how long she has left the door open.
"When I talk to you you answer!" yelled the nurse. She walked over to Ashlynn and made her look at me and then to her. Even though she only saw me for a second she recognized who I was and had gotten a glimpse of hope in her eyes. Then the nurse slapped her across the face. "Let's try this again, isn't that right Ashlynn?" the nurse asked angrily like a football coach when a team doesn't win a game or when a player does something idiotic while playing.
Ashlynn still continues to stay silent. The nurse at this point goes to drag Ashlynn out of the room pissed off. I couldn't let them do anything to my daughter. They made a mistake of letting me see her. They are going to have momma bear on their hands.
I lashed out at the nurse. I full on punched her. Then I grabbed Ashlynn and held her like a baby while on the ground. The nurse turned around and was mad. She went to grab Ashlynn and I kicked her. I kicked her hard. Then I got up and I beat her. No one was going to hurt my baby.
She passed out.
I ran while holding Ashlynn hand so she ran with me. We ran through hallways and where guessing of where to go. No one was in the hallway seeing as though she was in charge of this part. So I ran and ran. I ran until I saw an emergency exit sign. I remember that my family always said that under a sign is a door. So I ran for it. And I was right there was a door there. So I pushed it open and I continued to run down the stairs. I ran down stairs until I saw the woods. I was of course happy to see them and I ran for those. They would have difficulty finding people in woods. We kept going for at least another half hour before we couldn't bare it any longer.
We stopped.
I looked at Ashlynn; she had to be tired I couldn't imagine those little legs carrying her for so long. After a little while when we caught our breath she looked at me. She took a long look at me and asked "Why did you do that?"
I found it funny she even had to ask, but I replied anyway "You are my daughter and you don't need to be in there if anyone needs to be in there it is your father that bastard needs to be in prison for murder... I mean attempt of murder? Sorry for my language. But seriously I thought you were dead why you are here now?"
I knew that I was asking a five year old a question that she probably won't be able to answer.
"When dad decided to get us into a bad wreck I was not dead I was just knocked out really close to being dead. So after the wreck he had gotten out of the car because he made sure he was safe and made sure that I was safe. So when he had gotten out he picked me up. I couldn't feel anything mommy. And he took me to a place behind a building. I would know it when I see it. It was not too far from the crash maybe a five minute walk. Once I was inside this very scary building he brought me to this man who then laughed and said that they "had her now'. Dad then took me to the place where you found me. I have been in there for a couple of months now. I had begun to think you forgot about me and all you wanted was it to be you and dad again together. No kid to get into your way. Start a whole new life without me." She began to cry. I felt so bad about it all. How could she think that? I would never do that to her. I have to explain to her in some way of why it took me so long to get to her.
I was tearing up myself when I said "no no no no no no no honey I would never leave you I love you. I went into a coma after the wreck. I just woke up and the doctors thought I was crazy when I told them about your dad so they sent me with you. Or at least in that place. You said you would recognize the building if you saw it which means you where in the city if you weren't too far from the wreck. Hey Ashlynn want to be sneaky and go run around the city until we find the building. It will be like we are spys and we are searching for that building?"
I knew that would get her attention. She loved playing spy so of course her answer was "yes!"
