There's a giant lump in my throat that prevents me from screaming. I look at Emmett, my eyes flooded with tears. How could he do this? Yes, I asked for time but that was only between Edward and I, he had no right in making him leave. And Rosalie...

"You had no right," I whisper.

"You're my sister. I have every right-"

"You didn't," Jasper snaps. "Bella is twenty one, she can make her own decisions, Emmett."

Emmett growls. "You know she can't make a fucking decision to save her own goddamn life."

"I'm a big girl, Emmett, I can take care of myself!" I cry. Edward wraps his arms around my waist, ignoring Emmett's death glare.

"Please, Bella. You said you could live on your own and look at what happened. Your boss is dead, you lost your house, you lost everything. A maniac is after you who happens to be obsessed with you and a controlling bastard boyfriend!" Emmett yells.

"Wow, just wow, Emmett." I wipe my tears away. "I love you, I really do, Em, but you just crossed the line. I'll go inside to get my things."

"Bella," Jasper stops me. "Emmett is wrong, I know. I only agree with him that leaving with Edward is not going to happen."

"She's a grown woman. Plus, do you seriously think I'll leave her, or even harm her. No, not now or ever," Edward swears. He looks down at me and his expression softens. "Go, I'll be waiting here."

I nod, looking at Rosalie. Alice is there with Ava in her arms. Judging by her expression, Rosalie tried. I look at Jasper and say, "Alice is pregnant."

I hear her gasp. I run inside, grabbing my suitcase and throwing everything I have left in there, not bothering to fold them or whatever. I run outside where Jasper has a shocked look on his face and Emmett looks like he's about to murder someone. Edward grabs my suitcase with one hand and with the other he grabs my hand.

We both make our way to his car. Once he puts my suitcase in the back seat he takes off. As he slowly makes his way down the street, I watch how small my family gets as I move away.

From afar I see the cop who was assigned to watch the house follow us in his undercover SUV.

"Where are we going?" I ask Edward.

"We need to talk," he says.

"Where?" I ask, again, more like demand. "I don't want to go back to that apartment."

He nods. "I know. I suppose you don't want to go back to the old house either," he replies. I nod. "That only leaves a hotel."

I look down at my hands. "You said you wouldn't take any chances," I say. "You said you wouldn't let anyone take me from you, yet you still let Emmett prevent you from seeing me."

He sighs. "Because I knew Emmett wouldn't harm you. We'll talk once we get there."

"Please," I breathe. "Just... Talk now. Explain to me."

Edward rubs his chin. "I ignored Emmett's threat at first. I walked out of the hospital and waited until I cooled down. I didn't want to leave you, Bella, but I didn't want to force you to be with me. I decided I would give you a day or two. When I walked back to your room, Rosalie was standing at the door, she said she couldn't let me see you. I told her to move out of the way before I made her, but the guards were already behind me. They dragged me outside and said I wasn't allowed there until you were out of the hospital." He stops at the street light and looks at me. "I waited outside that hospital to see when he came out, but he never did. Neither did Jasper."

"You weren't there when I left," I point out. "You were gone for days, almost two weeks. Where were you?"

He sighs, driving down the street once the light turns green. "I was in Portland."

"Doing what?" He shakes his head. Of course he's not going to tell me. "Alright, if you're not telling me then stop the car." He looks at me with a warning expression. "Stop the goddamn car, Edward!" I shout.

"I'm not!" He shouts back, hitting the wheel with his fist. "I can't tell you right now, okay? It's not the right time."

I bit my lower lip. "You said we were going to clear everything."

"We are!" He snaps.

"You're not! You're keeping things to yourself! If you do, things are never going to work out, Edward!"

He stops the car right in front of a Motel 6. He leans his forehead on the wheel and sighs. "I was canceling the inherence," he says.

I frown. "What does that mean?"

"I'm no longer taking over for my dad in his company," he explains. "I talked to him, I explained it to him why I don't want it and... I knew you wouldn't want me too. He understood so we went to see his lawyer that lives there and passed it on to my cousin in New Orleans."

"Why wouldn't I want you to take over the company?" I ask him.

"Because that's not the guy you met, Bella." He pulls away and looks at me. "Who would you rather be with, a trained CEO who would be gone all day for meetings, work, and traveling? Or the guy you met that day when you were jogging?"

At first, I don't understand what he's trying to say. It takes me a moment to realize what he's saying. If he takes over, he'll be always busy, he'll always be working, meetings and like he said traveling to close deals. If he isn't, then it wouldn't be like that.

"Was Carlisle...?"

"Yes," he says. "Every day he'll be home late. He would miss birthday parties, special events, soccer games... Everything. He rarely was even there for me and James. I promised to myself I would never be like him. Esme missed him all the time. When he came home from work the first thing she did was run up to him and hug him for as long as they both wanted. I don't know, I guess I didn't want that for me... Or for you."

I look up at him. "Why me?"

"Because I can't see myself with no one else other than you," he replies, taking my hand from my lap. "You have an idea why."

I suppose I do. "You... Love me."

He nods. "I do. You already knew that," he replies. "The cop came behind us, I guess we have to talk to him later." I nod. "Let's go."

We get out of the car. Edward takes my name, guiding me to the office. We get our room key and make our way to the room, he is the one carrying our luggage. The room is very cold, the heater doesn't work so I change in a pair of sweats and crawl into bed. It's only seven, but I can't help to feel so tired.

Edward changes and crawls in bed with me. My back is facing him, I look at the closed window and sigh. Edward's arm snakes through my waist and pulls me closer to him. For some reason, I shiver. It might be the cold; it might be his minty hot breath against my skin. I have no idea.

"I missed you." He kisses my neck and rubs his nose up and down my shoulder. His kisses went along my jawline and then stopped.

I turn around, facing him. My fingers grasp his hair, and I pull him closer to me to the point where our lips finally meet. His hands grab me by the waist and rolls us over so I'm on top of him. He sits up, pulling his shirt over his head. I pull mine, pulling him closer to me.

There's no other way to forget, at least for a moment everything is okay. For now. There are still bigger things coming, I know there are. I hope I can be prepared for them. Mentally and emotionally.
