violet hated meeting new people. she wasn't standoffish or anything, she just didn't like people. it was probably because she didn't know how to make friends.

"vi, wake up!" she heard her mom say while shaking her awake. "you're gonna be late for your first day of school."

"fine." she angrily grumbled and got out of her bed because she knew that no matter what she said, she was going to school anyway.

"i'on get why you being so difficult, violet!" violet's mother yelled behind her. "you're only seven. you ain't even experienced actual life yet!"

"you know that people hate me, mama! i don't know why, but they do. i try to be nice but all these kids are annoying. like the kids at my first school." violet frowned remembering her actual first year of school.

she was yelling and crying, begging her parents to not leave her alone with those people.

"but you should've at least tried to befriend 'em."

"okay, okay." violet put her hands up, surrendering. "i'll go brush my teeth, i guess." she said walking towards the sink and reaching for her tooth brush.

"are you ready, vi?" yelled violet's dad from the bottom floor.

"yeah, pops!" she yelled back walking down the stairs in her short pink gown and ruffled socks. why her mom wanted her to look like the next black barbie doll, she didn't know. the dress was the definition of ugly.

"aw, my little baby is all grown up!" exclaimed her dad while ruffling her naturally curly hair.

"leave the kid alone, you'a ruin her curls!" violet heard her mom laugh from behind her.

"i'm just so excited, babe." he replied smiling at her before turning his gaze back to violet. "no crying this time, right, baby girl?"

"i mean, i guess." she said looking at the floor.

"aight." he said, clapping his hands enthusiastically. "time to go!"

the car ride was fifteen minutes long but to violet, it felt like it lasted for ever.

"we're here, baby girl!" said her dad getting out of the car before opening her mom's door and then hers. "are you ready?"

"yeah." lied violet.

"welcome, li'l violet, my name is miss jenny and i will be your teacher this year!" said a woman the moment violet walked in a wide class filled with kids her age.

she looked up at miss jenny who looked like she was in her late twenties. she was a white lady, with green eyes, and light brown hair that was pulled into a tight ponytail. she was wearing a maroon button-up shirt and black skinny jeans with black shoes. violet rolled her eyes at the teacher's attempt to look professional.

"hey." violet said, looking away.

"well someone is shy! i know someone you'd probably like!" said miss jenny, taking violet's hand and leading jet to sit next to a white girl who had dark black hair and wide green eyes.
