With the wind in his hair and a scowl on his face, Karkat Vantas stood in front of his new neighbour's house. Grey eyes glanced down to the plastic container in his hands, then back up to the wooden door. He tapped his foot once, stopped, then pressed the doorbell again.

He was turning around to leave when the door opened. "Hello?" The person said. Blue eyes, framed by rectangular glasses. Black hair, messy. Uncombed? Probably.

Karkat turned back around and handed him his package. "Housewarming gift, from your neighbour," he said gruffly. The blue-eyed boy blinked, then grinned.

"And that neighbour's name would be...?" Karkat couldn't help but notice the over-large front teeth the boy had.

"Karkat. Karkat Vantas." He folded his arms. Godammit, he was supposed to give the new neighbours the gift, then leave, not partake in idle greetings! He hated people.

"Great to meet you, Karkat! I'm John. Thanks for the gift; I'm sure my dad'll appreciate it." He smiled widely.

Karkat rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, sure, whatever. Goodbye." He swiftly pivoted on his right heel, then tromped down the steps. Ugh, overly cheerful new neighbours. How awful.

John waved after him, laughing. "See you around, Karkat!"
