Courage

An innocent thought

Provoked by a chance

Of becoming something more

I took a stand

Among those

Unafraid of the unknown

What am I to gain?

What am I to lose?

When I have nothing left

A careless reach

With no repercussions

If I were to pull back

Time continues

As not a single word

Can be heard

My hand closes inward

Fully aware of emotions

All too familiar

But unexpectedly

Like a gust of wind

Your presence is revealed

Staring back

Mirrored with my stance

You reciprocate my gesture

I hesitate

To respond back

Unprepared for your appearance

Honestly

What can be done?

Now that there is no turning back?

Fear consumes me

Terrified of the tiny thought

I decided to act upon

What was I thinking?

Will there be meaning

behind this meeting?

I did not expect much

Yet here I am

Contemplating everything

How much longer

Until you grow tired

Of my existence?

When will come the day

We decide to part

And go our separate ways?

The thoughts alone

Are terrifying

As you gain importance

Although

I will never know

What role I hold

Am I disposable?

Am I forgettable?

A cure for your boredom?

It is only now

I am filled with regret

Of not contemplating sooner

But courage

Is a peculiar

and nearsighted feeling

Thrusting you forward

Before you have a chance

To think no

Mine was small

But strong enough

To make me less of a coward

I've come this far

Only to see

Courage is a double edged sword
