They didn't notice her at first. In the bar, she sat by herself sipping a cocktail and quietly toying with her phone. She was no more than ten feet away but she managed to blend into the surroundings.

Both three drinks in, Jason and Keith discussed the prospects of their latest acquisition target. Jason wasn't impressed.

"The idea's not scalable and neither is the technology. Tom would have eaten their architect alive."

"Don't be so quick to dismiss them based on tech alone. They were first to market. They have some big name clients. They're actually making money. They really are disrupt. . . "

"Goddamit, Keith, if you say 'disruptive' one more fucking time. That word means nothing. Look, they're not gonna make it. They don't have the development talent. It's one guy and he's a medium talent at best."

"Isn't that what we're for? Between you and Tom and that hot piece of ass you just brought in. . . "

"His name is Trevor."

"I don't need to know his name for what I'm going to use him for."

"Oh, is that why you gave him a thumbs up without even interviewing him? I should report you to HR."

"Gina would never believe you. She thinks I'm just a staid numbers guy. Anyway, I don't need to interview someone to know if they're good. I have a good instinct about these things."

"Your only instinct is between your legs, Keith."

"That may be . . . but that is neither here nor there. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Their strategy is solid. Sure, the assumptions in their projections are pie in the sky but, even if you halve it, the potential is there. It's a good opportunity, Jason."

"It's a good opportunity executed poorly. We'd have to bring a whole new team in."

"Hasn't stopped us before."

"OK, I get it. I just don't think it's worth the hassle. Let's see what else is out there first."

She couldn't help but overhear them. Keith, in particular, would've been loud enough for someone thirty feet away to hear. It sounded like a sensitive conversation. She wondered if they knew she could hear it all.

By the time she received her third Manhattan, the topic had changed.

Jason had on jeans and a t-shirt that read, "Binary. It's as easy as 01, 10, 11." She had no idea what that even meant. It was clear he was a coder or programmer or whatever they called themselves. She knew there was a difference but never learned what it was.

He was talking about something she couldn't quite follow. "She got fucked on that partnership. They finally got them to agree on a revenue per share guarantee but it's been five years."

"Yeah, what a shit show. I just don't like her, though. All that stuff about not letting employees work from home. Meanwhile she has a nursery attached to her office. That's some hypocritical bullshit."

"It's all about the numbers. I thought you were the strategy and finance guy, Keith."

"I just think you're better off treating your people right."

"If there's anything you know about, it's treating people right. Man, woman, child: you don't discriminate."

"Hey, I take offense at that. 18 isn't a child."

"It is when you're 43, Keith!"

"That boy - that man - needed me. I gave him a knob slobbing he'll never forget."

"Knob slob? Seriously?"

"I gave him fe-lat-i-o. Is that better for your sensitive little ears, Jason?"

"Actually, yes. Do you really think your bj's are that amazing? Wasn't that guy straight? I'm sure he's gotten tons since then."

"Ugh. From women? Please? You think a woman knows how to suck a guy off?" Keith mimed the motion with his hand moving sideways as he stuck his tongue in his cheek.

"Yes, I'd imagine she does."

"No way. Too delicate. Only a guy knows how to get another guy off. You gotta use your hand. Hard, like this." He slide his hand up and down his drink glass.

"Keith! Stop that! People are watching."

It's true. She had been listening and when Keith when started his animated demonstration, she couldn't help but look. It was Jason who noticed her.
