Chapter 27: 1999, Switzerland

Start from the beginning

He gave the calling cards to Maya.

" 'Advanced Idea Mechanics' or AIM for short, you get it?" He asks.

"I see that 'cause it's on your t-shirt." I said pointing at his t-shirt.

"Ladies, follow the mullet. Ladies first." I said.

The ladies followed Happy out of the elevator.

"Thank you. I'll call you." Said Maya leaving the elevator.

Killian was about to leave but I stopped him.

"I'm titillated by the notion
of working with you. I'm going to ditch these clowns; I'll see you up on the roof in five minutes. I'm just going to try to get my beef wet real quick if you know what I'm talkin' about." I smirked.

"I'll see you up there!" He said excitedly

"Damn betcha."

I left him and followed Maya to her room. She started showing me her research.

"Come on, I thought that was just a theory." I said amazed by her work.

"Well... it was. If I'm right, we can access the area of the brain
that governs repair and chemically recode it." She said.

"That's incredible. Essentially, you're hacking into the genetic
operating system of a living organism." I said.

"Exactly."

"Can you not touch my plant? It's not... she doesn't like it. She prefers" Maya said looking at Happy who was touching her plant works.

"She's not like the others." I told Happy.

"Come on, let's go to the bedroom. Happy, leave her ficus alone." I said as I led Maya into her bedroom.

"No, seriously, don't." Maya warned Happy.

I sat on her bed and she sat across from me.

"And you're starting with plants?" I asked.

"For now, yes. I'm calling it "Extremis"." She explained.

"Well, its human application-" she cut me off.

"Exactly!" She exclaimed.

"Dentra-degree vitalization, Disease prevention. Even limb regrowth."

"You're the most gifted woman
I've ever met." I told her smiling.

"Wow..." She said as she took off my sunglasses and put them on.

"In Switzerland." I continued.

"That's better." She said grinning.

"This week...You almost bought it, didn't you?" I asked.

We started to lean in and our lips connected. We were interrupted by a small explosion from the living room. We instantly broke apart.

"This is what I'm talking about, the glitch." Sighed Maya.

"Have you checked the telomerase algorithm?" I asked.

Happy charged in the room and tackled me down and stayed on top of me.

"We're good." I told him.

"Stay down." He said sternly.

"You're right on me..." I said awkwardly.

Happy finally got off me.

"What the hell was that? What the hell was that?" Happy asked demandingly at Maya.

"It's a glitch in my work." Maya explained.

"She was just talking about it. Glitches happen." I said.

I hear a lot of people outside cheering.

"Hey, Happy New Year!" I cheered.

"Happy New Year." Happy beamed.

"Happy New Year." Maya cheered back.

"Alright, I'll see you in the morning, okay? Good night." I told Happy.

"You good?" He asked.

"Yep." I said.

"I'll be right outside." Happy informed me.

"Okay, cool." I said.

I continued kissing Maya again.

Present Day

"So, why am I telling you this? Because I had just created demons, and I didn't even know it. Yeah, those were good times. Then I moved on.
After a brief soiree in an Afghan cave, I said "Goodbye" to the party scene. I forgot that night in Switzerland. These days I'm a changed man. I'm different now. I'm... well, you know who I am."
