Aelin faced Rowan under the beautiful pine tree. Just yesterday her and Rowan arrived in Wendlyn. They rode horses for seven days until they arrived in Mistward. The fortress, thank the gods, had been fully rebuilt. Everyone she and he knew was there, seated and watching, some even crying. Aelin looked into Rowan's pine green eyes and saw their future together. Rowan gave her a smile that stopped her heart. He looked devishly handsome in his black tunic and pants, a cherry blossom pinned across his left pectoral. Aelin smiled back and nodded to the man who was to marry them. He grinned and began to recite. Rowan said his vows first, making her cry in the process. And when Aelin said hers, Rowan's eyes lit up and a single tear rolled down his cheek. The priest then asked for the rings and a small boy stepped forward. Aelin marveled at the pillow that bestowed her silver ring with three sapphires in the center and his gold band. Rowan slid the ring on her finger and she the same. And when the time came, Rowan cupped her face and, just like that, sealed the bond.
The crowd erupted and Aelin stepped from Rowan. Her smile was a little forced when she saw Arobynn Hamel standing in the back, clapping and crying. As she turned to her king, Aelin felt something odd. She felt Sam then, at her shoulder, a hand upon her shoulder, as if whispering a congratulations.
Aelin smiled so broadly her cheeks hurt.
