Iridescent

Sunrises in the South are the most beautiful,

you would know because you fell in love with one

The sillage of its beauty left imprints in your eyes,

so that everything else, including me, is incomparable

And just when you lowered your gaze,

the shores lured you to their oceans,

which I bet you would describe as pristine,

although pristine, like love, is an overused word

iridescent is what I would call it

Then it dawned on me that I can never compete against

the spectacle of all of them put together

But in case you long for the warmth the sun cannot offer,

the waves too harsh to sound like laughter,

let me be the moment you live for,

no matter how ephemeral

And if you ever needed me

I'd run to you with the pace

that defeats the speed of light

The sun may shine for you,

and the ocean a breathtaking view,

but tell me,

would they write about you?
