If I only had
One letter to write,
What would it say?
What would you write?
Should I even address it-
To go somewhere?
Nay, my naught,
Is in self-doubt,
Remorse.
I wouldn’t tell
Of all my suffering
Or my pains,
Who would listen-
Through reading?
In general,
Who would listen?
Would you write to
Loved ones?
To strangers?
To the world?
Would you write
A goodbye? A farewell?
A salutation?
A poem?
A story?
Would you write
About yourself?
Someone else?
Your thoughts?
If it were your only,
Final letter . . . .
Would you dare ever write
Your sins or tragedies,
If no one would ever listen?
Some brave would say
“Yes,
Because then no
One would know
If no one would listen.”
As true as that may be,
What would happen
If you needed an ear?
Would you be so brave then?
I can’t even ask myself
For I fear
More self-doubt,
More remorse.
I need not any
More of this terrible
Forsaken life.
So,
If I only had one letter
To write,
Would I just address
It to myself,
And save myself trouble?
Nay,
If I only had one
Letter to write,
I would leave it blank.
