Mondays

I wake up on Monday morning, already dreading the day. It is Monday, after all. I get out of bed, getting ready for school and eating breakfast. Once I'm done, I start walking to school since it's not too far from where I live. Along the way, I happen to notice two boys walking ahead of me. From the back, I can tell one has black hair, the other olive brown. The one with black hair is slightly shorter.
Is that....?
I speed up my walking pace to get closer to them. That's when the boy with brown hair turns around. It's Makoto.
"Good morning, (y/n)! I didn't expect to see you here!"
I wave shyly at him. The other boy, Haruka, turns his head a little to glance at me through the corner of his eye. Then he turns back to look ahead of him. Well, that's disappointing.
Makoto motions for me to walk beside him.
"How are you today, (y/n)?"
I shrug. "Eh, usual. It's Monday."
He chuckles. "That's true."
"School is just so boring."
"Well, there's always clubs you can join...." He pauses. "Hey, (y/n)....do you like swimming?"
Haruka stops walking for a moment, then continues with us.
Do I? "I mean, yeah...why?"
"Would you want to join the swim club?"
"I-I...I don't swim for competition. I just do it for fun."
"O-oh...alright..." He pauses again. "Well then, do you play any sports or do any extracurricular activities?"
I nod. "Yeah. I ((choose something you do...or make it up idc))"
"Wow, that's cool! What do you think, Haru?"
Haruka glances over at me. He hums in response.
"Don't worry, Haru is always really quiet!"
I look at Haruka. He's got his eyes on something in the distance. I don't even think he's listening.
The whole way to school, Makoto drowns me in questions about myself, but I'm happy to answer them. The only thing I heard Haruka actually say was, "I need the water", but it was barely a mumble, like he was talking to himself. He's so different, but maybe that's what I like about him the most.
When we're there, I head to my classroom, 2-2. Makoto and Haruka go to theirs as well. Inside, I'm glomped by Nagisa.
"(Y/n)-chan!!!! Hi!!! Did'ja like Friday night? It was so cool, right? Right?!" He runs over to a boy sitting at a desk, looking like he's studying hard for a test that I'm unaware of. He has blue hair and red glasses that he constantly pushes up on his face. I know him as Rei Ryugazaki. "Hey, hey, Rei-channnn, you missed it Friday!!! (Y/n)-chan, Mako-chan, Haru-chan and I had a party! Why weren't you at school then??"
Rei doesn't look up from studying. "....I was sick."
"Why didn't you tell me?? Poor Rei-chan!!" Nagisa tries hugging him, but Rei pushes him away.
"Can't you see I'm studying?"
"But we don't have a test today!"
"We have a test next month, right? I. Must. Get. An. A."
Rei is obsessed with grades. He's the smartest kid in our class and always raises his hand for every question asked. He's that good. He's that one kid in every class that just has to get an A or he'll throw a tantrum. No joke. I've seen it happen.
"Ehhhhhh, you're no fun, Rei-chan!"
He doesn't answer, only mumbling things under his breath. Nagisa turns back to me to say something when our teacher tells us to get in our seats and that class is about it start.

I'm bored through all my classes, and our teacher tells us we have a surprise test tomorrow. Greeeeat, this'll be fun, stressing out over it and studying until 1 AM. I look over at Rei and he seems so enthusiastic about it. He's so weird; how can you be excited about a test? Then again, he is Rei. What did I expect?
I head to my locker, already stressing over the test, when I accidentally bump into someone. My things tumble all over the floor.
"A-ah!! I'm so sor-"
I look up, seeing Haruka standing over me. My heart beats faster than it should be. He crouches down to help collect my things off the ground. Without saying anything, he hands them to me.
"Th-thank you..."
He nods, humming in response.
"I'm really sorry. I wasn't really looking where I was going."
"It's okay. Don't worry about it." His voice is so soft and calm. Like water.
"O-okay..." I head to my locker but Haruka follows me. It's a little awkward; he just stands there while I gather the things I need to take home. Soon after that, Makoto walks over to us with Nagisa, who looks upset over something. Not too far behind them is Rei. Haruka looks like he's about to something but then stops himself.
"Waah! But I don't wanna study!!"
"Tsk. You're so annoying, Nagisa." Rei rolls his eyes.
"Nagisa, I'll be fun, I promise." Makoto turns to me. "Hey, (y/n), don't you think it would be fun if we all did a little studying together? Rei me that you guys have a test tomorrow, and so do Haru-chan and I-"
"Drop the '-chan', will you?" Haruka looks a little annoyed.
"Er, Haru and I have a test as well, so I thought it would be fun for the five of us to go study at the park together!"
"....I want to swim..."
We all turn to look at Haruka. He's staring at the ground.
"But Haru, don't you want to study?"
He looks up this time. "I want to swim."
"That's Haruka-senpai for you." Rei pushes the glasses up on his face.
"Come on, we need to study!"
Haruka sighs, nodding. I feel a little bad for him. Makoto turns back to me.
"So (y/n), do you want to study with us?"
I nod. "Sure, why not?"
He smiles. "That's great! If you're ready, we can go now."
"I am. Let's go."
I just wish I knew what Haruka was going to say to me.
