Dipper awoke with a start, and at first he wondered where he was. He lifted his head off his pillow to look around, and he saw Mabel sleeping peacefully, hugging Waddles, who was hugging a stick. He guessed he was in his room, as usual. Dipper couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, so he decided to take a walk in the forest to calm his nerves. He jumped out of bed and tried to step lightly so he wouldn't wake his twin sister. As soon as he made it out of the attic, he closed the door and leaned against it. He thought of asking if Grunkle Ford wanted to go with him, and ended up deciding it was a good enough idea, so he made his way down to his great-uncle's secret study. He punched in the code, and then climbed down into the dark corridor.
