She was pissed and I was just waiting for her to speak about it. I wanted her to get it out and scream at me and let me explain and forgive me so we could all go back to normal. I tilted her chin upwards. "Do you want to talk about it?"

Her soft eyes sharpened and she scoffed, covering her mouth as she laughed. "Do I want to talk about it?" She questioned. I was unable to tell if she was amused or hurt. "You're fucking kidding me? You kissed that girl; Jesse and you're asking me if I want to fucking talk about it?"

"No, no." I muttered under my breath as guilt and fury all came crashing down on me in one sudden moment. "I was kissed. I didn't kiss her. She kissed me."

"Yeah sure." She seethed and raised her voice, sounding shocked and offended and totally, rightfully furious, "You know, I'm not that naïve."

"I don't think you're naïve." I wondered where she even got that idea from, I thought the total opposite. "You're one of the best people I know, you're so smart, why would you even think that?"

"I've been with really shitty people, Jesse. People have cheated on me before, I'm not new to this." She spat, her sad eyes becoming visibly angry. They narrowed with rage. "I've heard all these excuses before." Then she turned her voice into one that was meant to mock me and the other guys that had hurt her. "She was just a friend. She got the wrong idea. She kissed me. That's not cheating. I've heard it all before."

Feeling my heart begin to race, I fought through my brain to find something to say that could make this all better, "I swear, I didn't mean to hurt you, I just wanted to-"

Pointing at me accusingly, through gritted teeth Amelie hissed, "You sent me away to talk to that girl."

"Yeah, because she's horrible and would say disgusting shit to your face. She said shit about you to me." I informed her, trying my hardest to keep calm. I didn't want her to know that Maria had called her a slut behind her back, but she needed to know that I knew her too well to be oblivious to what she was going to do.

"She doesn't even know me, why would she say shit about me?" She stared at me with her furious blue eyes as I stood there in silence. "Who even is she?"

I swallowed hard. Telling Amelie the truth in that moment wouldn't have made anything better, but lying would've made everything a whole lot worse. "My ex-girlfriend."

Widening her eyes and clicking her tongue, she sighed, "Right, okay."

"Ex-girlfriend." I tried to assure her, "Heavy on the ex. No more feelings for her at all." I had no feelings for her except ones of total hatred and disgust. Love had been out of the question for nearly two years now. For the both of us, it was lust that fueled our relationship before we realized just how much we despised each other.

"But you kissed her."

"She kissed me."

"Jesse, please just stop." She pinched the bridge of her nose and looked back up. Her eyes were glistening in the sun now as her face turned slightly red. "You're not making it better for yourself."

"I'm not trying to make it better for myself, I'm trying to get you to understand that I wouldn't hurt you." I explained, taking her hand in mine.

"Well, I'm already hurting a little." She shot back, her voice sharp and strained in pain. Her lip was quivering.

What have I done? I thought as I watched everything collapse before my eyes.

"Amelie, please." I begged, finding myself holding onto her a little too tight. "I swear that everything that happened last night was just fucking out of the blue. That girl has been calling me over and over again for months."
