The House at the End of the Street

There were three things Jona had been told about the house at the end of Hawthorne Street.

Never go there alone.

Never accept a drink from anyone inside.

And, most importantly-

never fall for one of them.

Naturally, by the end of her first week at university, Jona had managed to break the first rule.

The old house stood at the very edge of campus, separated from the university buildings by a narrow road and a row of ancient oak trees. It didn't look like student housing.

It looked like something that should have been abandoned fifty years ago.

Three stories of dark stone. Tall windows. Ivy covering almost half of the building. An iron gate that squeaked whenever someone pushed it open.

And yet everyone knew who lived there.

Seven boys.

No one seemed to know exactly how they'd ended up living together.

Some said their families owned the house.

Others claimed they'd been kicked out of regular university housing.

One girl from Jona's psychology class had leaned across the table during lunch and whispered that someone had been taken away in an ambulance after the last party held there.

When Jona asked what happened, the girl only smiled.

"Depends who you ask."

It should have been enough to keep her away.

It wasn't.

Especially because her roommate had disappeared into that exact house forty minutes ago and stopped answering her phone.

"Unbelievable," Jona muttered.

She stood outside the gate, staring at the building.

Music vibrated faintly through the walls.

There was clearly a party happening inside.

She could already see people through the windows, moving beneath dim red lights.

Jona checked her phone again.

11:47 PM

Still nothing.

She typed another message.

JONA: If you're dead I'm actually going to kill you.

Delivered.

No response.

"Great."

She pushed open the gate.

The moment Jona stepped onto the property, something felt different.

Not supernatural.

Not exactly.

Just...

heavy.

Like the entire house was watching her approach.

She ignored the feeling.

At the front door, she hesitated for half a second before knocking.

Nothing.

She knocked again.

Still nothing.

"Obviously."
