The following morning, everyone began their daily schedule. Getting out of bed, getting ready, meeting outside. Sonic and Shadow mainly avoided each other. They sent a few glances to one another, but they were both too worried about acting suspicious. A camp counsellor began explaining their first activity. "Ok guys, for our first game we're going to head into the woods and build a shelter in teams. We're going to mainly let you guys do your own thing, but we will be here in case you need help," she said. "In groups of 5 or less you're going to use whatever you can find in the forest to build a shelter. Your shelter should be big enough to fit your whole group!" the camp counsellor finished. "Looks like it's us verse you guys again," Rouge said. "Guess so," Amy smirked. Once the game began, both groups started searching around for good materials to use for their shelters. Shadow, Rouge, Rock and Maria attempted to build their shelter in a cube-shaped building, but quickly realized it was much too difficult to get the sticks to balance, so they instead build their shelter in a triangular shape against a tree, as many groups were already doing. They found the longest sticks possible to rest against the tree so their shelter wouldn't be too small. The group also used long pieces of grass to tie some of the sticks together. This way it was less likely to all fall apart. They dug holes for the bottom of the sticks to put them in and bury them. Once they felt that it was sturdy enough, they put a second layer of sticks to cover all the slits in between to keep too much wind from coming in. All four friends got inside to make sure they all fit. To their surprise, they did. They started to talk about what they would use to make a door. "We could rip bark off a big tree and use that," Rock suggested. "Oh yeah, nice Rock. Let's just destroy nature," Maria said sarcastically. "Oh come on, it's not THAT bad," Rock said. "Guys," Shadow interrupted. Rouge, Rock and Maria looked at him. "It's really cramped in here," he said. "Yes ... yes it is," Maria said, trying to find some room to extend her legs. "There's probably a much better way to build a shelter," Rouge said. "Probably. I don't think we're very gifted when it comes to nature," Rock admitted. Everyone nodded their heads in agreement. "Let's just forget a door then and go see what the others have done," Rouge said. "Alright," Shadow said. The four of them squeezed out of their shelter, and walked over to the shelter of Knuckles, Amy, Sonic and Tails.
"Wow," Maria said in amazement, staring at their shelter. "How did you guys make it so ... nice?" she asked. "I am pretty good at these kinds of things," Amy smiled. "Come on in. I'm sure there's room for all of us," she said. Shadow, Rouge, Rock and Maria joined Sonic and his friends inside their shelter. They did all fit, even had room for more. "Hey guys," Sonic said, "like it?" "It's awesome," Rock said. "Yeah! Yours makes ours looks ... well ... terrible," Maria admitted. "Anyone's makes ours look terrible," Shadow said. "Yeah, I think we can agree ours just looks terrible by itself," Rouge said, scratching the back of her head. The others laughed. "It's okay, you gave it your best shot. Besides its not like you guys would survive in the wild anyways. Us on the other hand-" "there goes that ego of his again," Shadow interrupted Sonic. Sonic laughed. "Don't worry if we were ever lost in a forest I'd let you guys into our shelter," he said. "Aw, thanks Sonic," Maria laughed. Everyone sat quietly in the shelter for a bit before Tails asked, "does anyone have any idea what we're doing tonight?" "Everyone says on the last night here we have a dance," Amy said. "Oh, great," Knuckles and Shadow said together. Everyone laughed. "What's the matter guys? You don't want to dance?" Rouge asked. "No," they said. "I think they also do karaoke," Amy added. "Better get the ear plugs," Sonic said, tossing a rock in the air and catching it in his hand. Amy chuckled. "Why?" "Because everyone knows the good singers never go up for karaoke. It's only the people who sound like a choking antelope when they sing that do karaoke," Sonic explained. Shadow, Knuckles and Rock bursted out in laughter. "What an awful thing to say! Some people I'm sure will do great," Amy smirked. "Well, you let me know by the 90th time you hear someone cover Justin Bieber tonight," Sonic chuckled. Rock, Shadow and Knuckles were still laughing by the time the camp counsellors called everyone over to start their next activity.
"For our last game before lunch we are going to go on a scavenger hunt. Get in to groups of 8 and we will assign you your first clue. Everyone's will be different. So once you sort yourselves in to a group, come see one of us and we will give you your first clue," The camp counsellor explained. "How convenient that we need 8 group members," Tails said. "Tell me about it," Amy replied. Everyone walked over to a camp counsellor and received their first clue, written down on a card. "What does it say?" Amy asked. "Don't forget to call your family, if you ever wish to find me," Sonic read aloud. "What?" he laughed. "They put the clues on our cell phones!" Knuckles said, "quick, to the cabins!" "They did not!!" Amy laughed. "Guys, maybe they have a phone somewhere? Like inside the building?" Tails suggested. "Yeah I think there is! I remember the people who don't have their cell phones were going to it to call their parents," Maria said. "Why would someone need to call their parents?" Rock asked. "To say hi, duh..." Amy said. "Come on, let's go check," Sonic said leading everyone to the building. They walked inside and started searching around for a telephone. "Guys! I found it!" They heard the far off voice of Knuckles, who had wandered to small room down the hall. Everyone found Knuckles and read the next clue. "You want to find the next card? Let's give it a whirl. Look for it at the home of the squirrel." "Home of the squirrel?" Rouge said. "Like, in the trees?" Tails suggested. "But which tree?" Amy asked. Everyone shrugged. "Is there anywhere else squirrels live?" Maria wondered. The others thought. "The cabin! The Squirrel cabin! It's across from ours!" Amy said excitedly. "I don't know about that," Sonic said. "Oh shush, it's genius. Let's go!" She said. Everyone made their way over to the squirrel cabin and sure enough it was there sticking out from underneath the doormat. "Ok! Ok! Read it, read it, read it, read it," Maria said quickly. "To ensure that your day isn't grey, you must have the most important meal of the day," Shadow said. "What kind of clue is that?!" he added, after a few seconds of silence. "It's in the kitchen! Obviously," Tails laughed. Everyone then ran back inside to the area where they ate everyday. The group started searching around. Looking under plates, cups, tables, and chairs. "Guys! It's right here," rock said, taking the card from a bowl on the buffet table. "What does it say?" Sonic said, as everyone rushed towards Rock. "Dancing tonight is gonna be groovy, but first find your next card where we watched a movie," he read. They ended up finding it taped to the sheet their movie had been projected on previously. The group continued their scavenger hunt, successfully finding each one until they got to their last clue. They found it taped underneath the water fountain in the hallway. "You've found your last clue, congrats to you all. For your reward, find the door down the hall." The group looked down the hall. "There's a janitor's closet," Rouge said. "Do you think it's in there?" She asked. "We might as well check," Sonic said. The 8 friends headed into the janitors closet and found a big chest laying in the middle of the floor. There was another card on top of it. "Hey, I thought they said that was the last clue," Sonic said. "It just says the combination for the lock on this thing is the number of cards we collected," Rouge pointed out. Everyone looked at Tails, who had been carrying all of the clues. He started counting them. "8, 9, 10, 11, 12," he said, "there's 12." Rouge entered the number 12 onto the lock on the crate. It popped open, and she swung the top of the chest back. "What the?..." Rouge said, pulling out cloths of many colours. "What in the world ... is this ... clothing?" Maria said, also looking through the cloths. "Guys look! There's another card at the bottom," Amy pointed out. Rouge reached for it and read it to the group. "Surprise! Get ready tonight to interest the room! Since you don't have one yet, choose your costume." "The party tonight is a costume party?" Tails asked. "Seems like it," Sonic responded. "That'll be fun!" Amy smiled, searching for the costume she wanted. "Oh! I need the pirate. Can I be the pirate?!" Amy said, picking up the pirate costume. "Sure," Maria laughed. "Look Shadow, there's a vampire costume. You have to be the vampire," she said, handing the outfit to Shadow. Shadow grabbed it. "Why?" he asked, looking it over. "You look like a vampire. Doesn't he?" Rouge said, facing the others. They looked confused. "Oh come on, he has a widows peak streak thing. Plus have you seen those fangs of his?" The others laughed. "Yeah, I guess he kind of does," Rock agreed. Everyone figured out what costume they would wear for the dance that night, and then went to have lunch.
Once the group finished lunch, everyone made their way back to the cabins to get ready for the dinner/dance. There were only 4 showers in the cabins so all the guys agreed to shower in the shortest time possible. Shadow, Sonic, Rock and Knuckles took their showers at the same time and then dried off to put their costumes on. "Hey Sonic," Knuckles said, putting his brown cowboy hat on for his costume. "Just like old times huh?" Sonic laughed and nodded. "Dang, I should dress like this more often," Sonic said, admiring himself in the mirror, wearing devil costume - a red suit with a darker red cape, and a pointed tail and pitchfork, topped with black horns. "Honestly Sonic ... you've never looked more like your true self," Knuckles said jokingly, rested his elbow on Sonic's shoulder. Sonic laughed. "Nah, now way. You're the red beast around here I think this costume was meant for you," he replied. "How did I get stuck with a plumber costume?" Rock asked. "You snooze you lose Rock! You said you didn't care and to just give you whatever costume was left," Sonic said. Rock laughed. "Yeah. I guess I was asking for it," he admitted. Shadow walked over in his costume to join in the conversation. "Why are you all standing in the bathroom?" Shadow asked. "Dang, Shadow. You look good," Sonic said. "Oh, thanks, uh, Sonic," Shadow said, awkwardly. "Why don't we go outside or something? It's too annoying in here," he said, changing the subject. "Can't. I have to blow dry my hair," Knuckles said. Everyone stared at him. "What? My hair is important to me, ok?" Knuckles said. The others laughed. "I guess I'll stay behind with Knuckles then. You two go," Rock said. "Sure," Sonic smiled, walking out with Shadow. "Do you think they did that on purpose?" Shadow asked once they got outside. "Did what?" Sonic asked, closing the door to the cabin. "Leave us alone together," Shadow said. Sonic chuckled, "no ... why would they do that?" "Maybe they know something's up," Shadow said. "Shadow ... you're acting paranoid. We didn't give any hints, anyway. Don't worry," Sonic explained, beginning to walk around with Shadow beside him. "Yeah ... you're probably right," Shadow tried to convince himself. The two walked around the camp for a while, mostly quiet. They just wanted to be together and enjoy the silence. "Do you think they'll have slow dancing?" Sonic asked finally. "I don't know. But if they do, don't get any ideas," Shadow said. "Aww come on, why not?" Sonic asked. "Because, Sonic. We're still trying to hide this from them, aren't we? This is no time for you to bust a move," Shadow explained. Sonic laughed. "Fine, fine," he agreed. "I have a better idea anyway," Sonic added. "What? An idea for what?" Shadow asked. Sonic smiled. "You'll see," he said.
