For the thoughts I usually keep to myself.
This is not my usual kind of writing.
There is no story here, no carefully constructed world, no character to hide behind.
Just me.
A compilation of thoughts I wrote down
when they were too loud to keep in my head
and too complicated to explain out loud.
I called this book Things I Was Supposed to Want
because, somewhere between growing up and becoming
who I thought I was meant to be,
I started questioning all the things I had been taught to want.
A career abroad.
Success.
Marriage.
Beauty.
Health.
More.
All the things I was supposed to want.
And underneath all of them
was a girl quietly asking:
What if I don't?
Maybe these pages are simply my way
of sitting with that question.
So, this is for the versions of me
who were still figuring it out.
The girl who dreamed too big.
The girl who got lost.
The girl who became tired.
The girl who wanted to be loved.
The girl who wanted to be left alone.
The girl who wanted to leave.
The girl who just wanted to come home.
And perhaps, most of all...
for the girl who still doesn't know
what she wants,
but is finally brave enough
to admit it.
With love,
M.
