Akari Higurashi had exactly three thoughts when she opened her eyes.
Her head hurt.
There was dirt in her mouth.
And she was going to murder Kagome.
"Ow..."
Akari rolled onto her back and stared upward.
Blue sky.
Clouds.
Trees.
Way too many trees.
She blinked several times.
"No."
She sat up.
"No, no, no."
The old well was behind her, but everything else was wrong.
The shrine was gone.
The house was gone.
The city was gone.
There wasn't even a power line in sight.
Akari slowly stood and brushed dirt from her jeans.
"Kagome!"
Nothing.
She cupped her hands around her mouth.
"KAGOME!"
Birds scattered from the trees.
Akari waited.
Still nothing.
"Great."
She looked back at the well.
"My cousin calls me into a creepy building in the middle of the night, I fall through a magical well, and now I'm apparently in the world's largest forest."
A branch snapped behind her.
Akari froze.
"...Kagome?"
A growl answered.
Akari slowly turned.
Something enormous crawled from between the trees.
It had six legs.
Three eyes.
And a mouth large enough to swallow Akari whole.
She stared at it.
The creature stared at her.
Akari pointed at it.
"You are absolutely not a bear."
The demon roared.
"Yep. Definitely not a bear."
It charged.
Akari screamed and ran.
"WHY DOES IT HAVE SIX LEGS?!"
The demon crashed through the trees behind her.
Akari jumped over a fallen branch and nearly lost one of her shoes.
"KAGOME!"
Another roar.
"IF I SURVIVE THIS, YOU OWE ME MONEY!"
The demon lunged.
Akari spun around and threw both hands forward.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!"
Pink-white light exploded from her palms.
The demon was blasted backward.
It crashed through a tree.
