The Lottery

This story is from a prompt that my friend wrote for me on a day we hung out.

*You and your family have hit the jackpot and you won 500 million dollars and a month on a sea cruise. A man has his eye on your is it on your money? But during your cruise there is a murderer on board...*

I feel the world starting to go cold as he blade gets pulled out from my gut. I look at the face of the man I had fallen in love with on this cruise. As he pulls the knife out and wipes the blade of blood and throws the white table napkin from the dining hall out to sea.

All I wanted was to treat my family to a nice surprise when I won the lottery. I took the ticket on a whim since I had just turned eighteen. This man swept me off my feet since the first day we stepped foot on this cruise ship. I ignored all of the red flags and let him walk all over me.

The room starts to go dark as I stare at his laughing face. I begin to think it would be the last thing I would ever see.

When I wale up, I look on front of me and see the man who had just stabbed me tied up and gagged, looking at me with a terrified face. He no longer had the laughing. The tables have been turned, but how? I look down and see that I have been bandaged up and I also seem to have been given proper care. I don't know who found us and why I was not left to die.

I feel a hand grip my shoulder and someone whisper to my ear.

"Don't worry. I won't let you die" I flinch at the familiar voice. I look behind me and knock his chin with my head, which causes him to laugh. When I get a good look I see my good childhood friend from home. I didn't know he was on this trip.

"Declan! What are you doing here?" I ask feeling somewhat relieved by his presence.

"I had a bad feeling about this guy when I saw him hanging around you when we came to see you off." He informs. "So I pulled some strings to see if I could get on the ship"

"Ah, I'm so glad you did. I was so scared." I start to cry as the shock and fear have started to set in.

"It's okay. I won't let him hurt you again" he assures me.

I feel myself start to relax. I feel comforted as he hangs his arm around my shoulder, keeping me grounded to reality. He feels safe and warm to have around.

Then I hear the sounds of many footsteps starting to approach the dining hall.

"How are you feeling" I hear the officer ask.

"I'm doing okay but I definitely need medical attention" I give a small laugh.

"We need a medical team over here. " The officer yells to the others. I get placed on a stretcher and brought out of the room. The last thing I see as I leave the room is  the knife lodged in the back of the man who was so smug about having the chance to take my money and have stabbed me.

The only person who could have had the time to lodge the knife in his back when I was still unconscious was Declan. Why did he do it, was it out of anger?

When I look at Declan, he has a finger to his lips and is telling me to keep quiet when the door is finally closed.
