Instigating events

There is a sequence of events in a man's life that creates the comprehensive denial of the transformative component necessary for sentient ascendance. What could those events possibly be?

In the face of adamant denial, as our sentient awareness became increasingly formidable, hints began to appear. It is obvious that something is wrong. Only what is wrong has remains so obscure.

That which went wrong must also apply to all of the varied reactions, the strange behaviours and quirks of the human race. The quirks observed in the male gender, in particular, must correlate. While the female gender's quirks must be taken into account, it is clearly the male gender's quirks that stand out as particularly disruptive to our state.

That defines the hunt.

Every man is affected. It's just a matter of degree. Not all men go completely mad but, enough do so to upset our existence in a comprehensive manner and leads to the ongoing destructive tendencies of the race.

The events must also answer how and why the realization became so twisted and distorted, hidden beneath heaps of nonsense that have accumulated for millennia. What is the secret that leads to mad obsessions? How and why did it become an obsessive secret?

That refines the hunt.

One of the most bizarre aspects is that the whole of the male gender was able to close ranks on this unreasonable dysfunction without ever saying a word to each other about the subject. It is imprinted on the male gender without a word ever being uttered in the most bizarre manner, leading to such awful effects as the caricature of male that became toxic.

That complicates the hunt.

It has held all of humanity in thrall to the stupour for three millennia, while the prehuman condition became more combative, because it has been so complicated.

All men are so committed, on their own, to avoiding the subject, but so desperate to avoid considering the subject openly that they began to fear anyone that might expose the secret. The disturbance led to a level of distrust throughout the male gender that speaks to paranoia. It is the 'good old boys network' personified and crystallized into its essential form. How did it occur?

Cognitive dissonance

All of this points to a single culprit. Cognitive dissonance.

Cognitive dissonance is a state of mental disarray that occurs when a person holds beliefs or opinions that are inconsistent (with a sentient reality and the desire for clarity).

This defines what happened. Still, how does it occur?

It is a disruption of the mental state of the whole of the male gender that is reinforced nearly daily from puberty on until old age. By then, the damage has become deep and abiding only varying in degree by how the individual coped with the issue at hand (or didn't).

Cognitive dissonance suits the circumstances perfectly. It disrupts beyond just words. It disrupts the thinking process itself, throwing thoughts off into deceits, delusions, excuses, and justifications rather than confront the secret that everyone knows.
