Jovian's POV
The first thing I remember about that morning was how normal it felt.
That was the cruelest part.
The sun was shining through my bedroom curtains, my alarms was screaming like it hated me, I was already late for school.
"Jovian!"
I groaned and pulled my blanket over my head.
"Jovian you're going to be late!"
"I know!"
I didn't.
I jumped out of bed, grabbed my uniform and rushed through getting ready. My black wavy hair refused to cooperate, so I gave up trying to make it perfect and hurried downstairs.
By the time I got to school I was already annoyed.
The school looked exactly the way it always did students crowded the entrance. Teachers hurried through the hallways with stacks of books. Someone was laughing too loudly near the stairs. A bell rang somewhere in the building.
Normal.
Completely normal.
"Jovian!"
I turned
Cheri was standing near the lockers, her red hair impossible to miss in the crowd.
"You're late", she said.
"Good morning to you too".
She smiled "you're welcome".
Anna appeared beside her carrying two books against her chest.
"She's been waiting for you for ten minutes".
"I have not"
"You have"
"I was waiting for everyone"
Cheri pointed at herself " Everyone?"
Vera walked behind them and adjusted the strap of her bag.
"She means us".
"Exactly", Cheri said
I smiled.
The four of us had somehow ended up together everyday, we were different in ways that should have made us impossible to group together, but somehow it worked.
Cheri was loud.
Anna was organized.
Vera noticed everything.
And me?
I was usually just trying to survive the day.
We headed towards class together.
Nothing seemed unusual.
Except for the sirens.
They were faint at first.
A long, distant sound somewhere beyond the school walls.
I stopped walking.
"Did you hear that?"
