October 23, 2026. It's a rainy, cold, and quiet night in your apartment. All the college students are in their dorms for the night as the rain doesn't seem to be lightening up anytime soon. It's night like these when the silence becomes unbearably loud and you tend to reminisce the days when you could just hide under your father's arm from the storm. However, he's no longer here to coddle you, and you're an adult now, cant be afraid of a little thunderstorm right?

All of a sudden lightning cracks down from the sky as if Zeus had been offended by your thoughts. You jump and feel your palms beginning to dampen. You turn your head to the framed photo on your desk, an old photo of you and your father. Him giving you a piggy back ride even though you were already a teenager. Both with smiles that seemingly stretched across your entire faces.

In 2022, your father was oversees serving in the US Marines. Where he tragically met his fate after being shot by enemy forces. Your father died a hero, an inspiration to you to continue fighting until your very last breath. He died with true honor. It had now been four years and you feel as if your memories of your father are fading. Like you didn't truly know who he was after he began his service tours. But you know who did.

You set your phone down and get up off the couch. Headed towards your room to throw on a hoodie and some converse. Frank served in the military with your father. He had made it back unlike your father. Whenever you missed your father you would ask Frank to meet up for some drinks and hear stories about your father's heroic actions.

You grab your phone, umbrella, purse and check in the mirror one last time ensuring your hair isnt too frizzy. That your mascara isn't smudged under your eyes. You pull open the front door to your apartment and step out. As you head to your car parked in the garage the lightning strikes down once again.  Causing you to jump and almost throw your purse, you let out a brief sigh, then chuckle to yourself.

After about 20 minutes you arrive at the Lib, a local bar that tends to cross the line between bar and nightclub. You get out of your car and shuffle to the door, getting rained on in the process. Pulling open the door you get a gust of A/C and shiver. Looking around the bar, it's quite packed tonight. College students, old folks, middle aged men, all of the above. Finally, your eyes lay on a figure sitting in the corner, a broad, muscular silhouette. You make your way over and tap his shoulder. He then snaps his head your direction, as if you were an unknown threat. Cold, dark eyes like daggers pierce into yours, you glance down at his lips, busted and scarred. Then quickly back up at his eyes, a bandage covering his eyebrow. "Hello to you too, kid", he grumbles.
