I sit staring out of my car window, looking at my parent's house. I had been sat staring for 30 minutes and I still had no intention of moving. If I got out of this car it made the worst weekend of my life real. My boyfriend of 3 years, well, my now ex boyfriend, had been cheating on me with a girl from his work. And no, not just once but consistently for 4 months. I didn't have anywhere else to go, I couldn't afford to rent a place on my own and with what happened, I couldn't stand being in that town any longer. I decided that coming home would be a fresh start, although it didn't feel like one. I'm 24 years old moving back into my parent's house... it kind of makes it feel like I'm progressing backwards.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath '𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘦, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴, 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳' I put my hand on the handle and force the door open. I step out into the warm afternoon air and begin to walk up the driveway to my parents from door. I push the button of the door bell and wait. "Rosealie?" My mom looks at me confused for a brief second before gripping her arms around me "oh god my Rosie bear, Jackson come see who's here!" I try to offer a smile but I can feel the tears brewing under the surface "where's Tom?" My mom asks with a small smile "he.. we.. we aren't together anymore mom" I whisper looking down at the floor "oh sweetie, I'm so sorry" my mom hugs me for the second time, but this time a lot softer and full of concern.

My dad suddenly comes into view "my baby girl!" He gasps as he comes and also joins the hug "you know, you guys are gonna crush me if you keep giving me so many hugs" I breathe out a slight laugh as they both step back, my mom still giving me a slight smile but her eyes showing worry and concern. "What gives us the pleasure of this spontaneous visit?" My dad chirps, completely oblivious to the look on my moms face "well actually, there's something I need to tell you both" they both look at me with questioning eyes "let's go sit down, shall we?" I say gesturing towards the living room.

I take a seat on the brown leather sofa that has definitely seen better days and my mom and dad take a seat in the arm chairs across from me "I'm coming home, full time.. if that's okay with you both?" I look up at them with hopeful eyes, my dad's eyes light up and my mom looks shocked but there was a hint of relief glowing through her eyes "you want to move back home?" My dad claps his hands together. I take a deep breath "the reason why I'm here is unfortunately not how I intended it to be.." I pause for a brief moment, scared to say it out loud and make it real "Tom has been cheating on me over the last couple months...with a woman at his work. I'm fine and I don't want to talk about it, but I am NOT staying in that town with him rubbing it in my face on how happy he is and leaving me to look and feel like a pathetic little girl!"

I feel the anger inside me bubbling to the surface and my voice comes out sharp. "Oh my beautiful girl, what a darn idiot he is, never liked him! I knew he was a sleazy imbecile!" My dad scoffs and throws his hands in the air angrily. My mom looks at me with sympathy in her eyes "you didn't deserve that Rosie bear. I'm so so sorry" I shoot my parents a half smile before standing up and rubbing my now sweating palms on my jeans "I'm exhausted and I really need to lay down for a few hours, would it be okay if I just went up to my room and I'll be down for dinner?" My parents both give me a sympathetic nod and I let out a long pressure filled breath "thank you, I love you both" they both say they love me back. I turn on my heels and head up the stair case to my teenage bedroom door.

I wake up to the sound of faint laughter and muffled voices coming from downstairs "are you staying for dinner Frank?" Frank. I sat upright in my bed, my dad's best friend Frank had been apart of my life for as long as I was alive. Him and my dad met in high school and both served as police officers together in our town. My dad was the sheriff before he got into a pretty bad accident. My dad is still lucky to be alive and I'm forever grateful to whoever was looking down on him that day. But unfortunately, it led him to an earlier than expected retirement. Now Frank is the towns sheriff, with a good word put in from my dad.

"Yeah, I'm definitely staying. I gotta see our girl" I hear Franks gravely low voice and my heart skips a beat. Frank always had this power over me. It runs through my body like heat. Ever since I became of age I couldn't help but notice just how attractive Frank truly is and that.. that is a problem, a problem I've been pushing to the back of my mind. Frank.. yeh he's truly off limits.

I step out of my teenage years bed and stretch letting out a grumbly moan 'damn mattress' a sharp pain suddenly plunging into the bottom of my back. 'Aspirin'  I think to my self as I walk into my little bathroom. I catch a glimpse of my self in the darkened mirror. I look terrible. My eyes are blood shot red from crying all weekend and purple under eyes from the lack of sleep I've been having recently. I grab some concealer from my makeup bag, attempting to make my self look more like the put together girl I pretend to be. A little bit of mascara and lip gloss and I call it a day 'not perfect, but better' I think to my self as I turn back towards my bedroom.

I throw on denim shorts and a tank top before joining everyone downstairs "there she is!" My dad excitedly shrieks from across the kitchen island. I shyly smile as I look across the room. My eyes are instantly met with the deep darkness of Franks "There's my Rose" he pulls a little half smile on his lips before he starts walking over to me. He wraps his arms around my shoulders and gives me a quick kiss on my head "hey, Frank" I lean into his hug. "You know, I could just shoot this stupid guy right" I look up at him, he has a devilish smirk on his face and lets out a small laugh "no one's stopping you" I put my hands up above my chest and give him a grin "right, it's settled, Any man who hurts my Rose will feel the wrath of my shotgun" I shrug my shoulders with a sassy look on my face "a worthy price for the crime"

My mom chuckles from the stove top whilst stirring the pot of liquid. My dad just shakes his head with a smile. "What's for dinner mom, it smells incredible" my mouth begins to water as I slowly shuffle behind her "I made chicken noodle soup with homemade bread" my stomach lets out a huge rattling grumble "damn, you better hurry Tessa, the monster is being awoken" Frank laughs and I feel my face turn red. "Shut it you" I jokingly hiss "but please be quick mom cause I literally think I might die of hunger soon" Frank lets out a deep chuckle and my mom puts her hands up defensively "I'm making it as fast as I can, go set up the table for me would you" I groan but I playfully stomp my way over to the cabinet to grab bowls and plates before placing them on the dining room table.

Dinner is served and I genuinely felt like a rabid beast "this.. is.. the..best.. meal.. ever" I speak between bites and my mom looks at me like I've gone mad "it's just soup and bread Rosealie, slow down woman" I chuckle slightly, realising I might be acting kind of crazy "sorry, I just haven't had a proper home cooked meal in such a long time.. and this mom, this is incredible" she smiles at me "thank you Rosie bear" Frank looks at me, a playful smirk playing at his lips "I have to say I agree Tess. It's lovely, really is. Accept I can control my monstrous urges around bread" I laugh out loud at his sly dig "you better watch it Castle, you're pushing the line" he looks at me deep in my eyes "you're right, I don't wanna be upsetting my baby girl now would I" I feel the heat rise in my cheeks and a smile crawl onto my lips.

After dinner I send my mom and dad into the living room to relax "I'll do the dishes mom, please let me, I wanna earn my keep" she looks at me with soft eyes "you don't need to earn your keep Rosie bear, this is your home" I let out a deep breath "please mom" she nods her head before pulling my dad into the living room with her "please join us when you are done" I nod and get to work. Even with my back away from the kitchen I can feel his presence "whatcha looking at Frank" I turn around and splash him with a bit of water "Just realising how much I've missed you" the heat suddenly rushing through my body "you did?" I turned to look at him "mhmm, place just isn't the same without my rose home" I smiled "I missed you too Frankie" his face softened "you haven't called me that since you were 12" I smiled up at him "I was heart broken the day I went from Frankie to Frank, you shot me with it out of no where too" I laughed as he pretended to be shot in my heart and leaning over the kitchen Island "I grew up, I had to start using the grown up names too" he looked me up and down briefly before locking back into my eyes "I've noticed that alright" a small smirk pulling on his lips.
