THE SON WHO DISAPPEARED
The night Achileus disappeared, Arvic Summer woke up with a strange pain in his chest.
Hindi siya ordinaryong sakit.
It was the kind of pain that came without warning-deep, sharp, and instinctive. Para bang may invisible hand na humihila sa puso niya, forcing him to wake from a sleep that had barely lasted a few hours.
Arvic slowly opened his eyes.
Madilim ang silid.
The moonlight entered through the tall windows of the Alpha's private chambers, casting silver shadows across the floor. Tahimik ang buong mansion. Too quiet.
Beside him, Quillon Demetre was still asleep.
The Alpha's breathing was deep and steady.
For several seconds, Arvic simply stared at him.
Then his hand unconsciously moved toward his chest.
"Something's wrong..."
He whispered the words.
Hindi niya alam kung bakit.
There was no sound.
No scream.
No alarm.
Nothing.
But something inside him was screaming.
A parent's instinct.
A bond that had existed long before his sons learned to speak.
Achileus.
The name appeared inside his mind without warning.
Arvic immediately sat upright.
"Achileus..."
His heart began pounding.
He looked toward the adjoining room where his three sons slept.
For years, Quillon had joked that their sons could wake an entire territory with their noise.
Achileus was usually the first to wake.
