The classroom became quiet as Ella stood in front of everyone during the Filipino Culture Quiz. She could not answer a simple question about a traditional Filipino song.
She remembered when she was little. Her grandmother used to teach her Filipino games, sing Bahay Kubo, and bring her to fiestas. But as Ella grew older, she became more interested in foreign music, movies, and trends. Slowly, she forgot her own culture.
Before leaving for school that morning, her grandmother smiled and said, "Never forget where you came from." Ella only smiled and left.

Going back to the present. Unknown to Ella, her grandmother had signed her up for the quiz because she wanted Ella to appreciate Filipino culture again.
After the quiz, Ella looked around for her grandmother, but she was not
there.
Then her mother came with tears in her eyes.
"Your grandmother passed away this morning," she said.
Ella was shocked. She realized that the person who taught her to love Filipino culture was already gone.
