November 16th
I stumbled my way home from school. It was warm and breezy out this afternoon, and leaves were just starting to fall from the trees. I smiled as the golden sunlight warmed my cold skin. I looked around behind me, in front of me, to my right and to my left.
Once I knew I was alone, I stopped and placed my hands about six inches apart, and little cold flurries of snow began to form from my hands. I continue to make it snow with in the 6 inches of my hands, the little flurries melting immediately as they hit the warm pavement.
I have been leaving later from school because I liked to stay behind to explore what all abilities I have if you will.
I realized about 2 weeks prior that I had some sort of weird ability with water; I've always felt connected to the water even as a kid, but the connection just grew stronger as I got older. I remember sitting in the bath and I went to raise my hand to grab something from a shelf in the shower and the water followed suit. From then on I have just silently kept my little secret to myself, but it's evolved since then. I haven't figured out what all I can do, but for now I know I can definitely manipulate it into what my mind conjures up.
"Rilyn!" My best friend Sara, yells at me from down the street. She had probably spotted me from her bed room window, one of the perks and downsides to having your best friend live down the street from you. I quickly tear my hands apart and hope that she didn't see anything.
"Hey, Sara!" I say with a big smile. I watch her pale-yellow hair fly behind her in the wind as she runs towards me. It was a shiny honey color in the sunlight.
"You're leaving pretty late from school today." Sara says to me whilst panting from her sudden sprint. "I tried texting you, but you didn't respond," She said giving me a look with a raised eyebrow. I looked down at my watch, it was 3:36 PM. I liked staying late in the library, with the added bonus that usually everyone is at home by now. School gets out at 2:15 PM.
"Yeah, well, I like to take my time coming home sometimes." I say, giving her a nervous smile. Sara raised an eyebrow at me again, suspiciously, but quickly dismisses it and continues to walk with me.
"I was trying to see if you wanna go to the park later?" Sara says, giving me a big smile.
"Why? Is it because Luke and Will are going to be there?" I say, and this time it's me raising my eyebrow at her.
"I talked to Luke and Will, they said that they're going to be playing basketball there today," she says with a slight giggle. I already knew that though. Luke Andrews and William Jackson were mine and Sara's best friends since sixth grade. Will was also my boyfriend.
"I'll see if I can go. I have homework and chores to do. I'll text you if I can." I look down at the ground; that wasn't the reason I couldn't go. I didn't not want to go, don't get me wrong, I wanted to see my boyfriend, but I really just wanted to sit in my room and see what my "powers" can do. I didn't get the chance to be alone and focus on them often.
"Okay Ri, but I don't want to go alone." Sara says whilst pouting at me with her big grey eyes.
"Okay.. I'll try." I say, giving her a half smile. I didn't want to say no because she is my best friend and I did want to see my boyfriend.
"Yay! Thank you Rilyn. I have to go eat dinner, but I'll text you. I will hopefully see you there!" She said with a bright, happy smile. I didn't even get a chance to respond before I saw her blonde hair flying behind her as she ran down the street.
I continued on my walk home from school. I checked all around myself again, and once I knew the coast was clear, I began to use my powers again.
Why me? Was I born with this strange ability, but am just now realizing it? Or did it just randomly come to me? I feel like the last two weeks has been a whirlwind of emotions as I try to explore this new part of myself. Maybe it's some sort of curse that put on me. Yeah, that's probably it. I smile to myself and continue my walk home.
