Glass crunched under your feet as you pushed forward, a familiar destination in mind as your hands gripped the straps of your weathered and torn bag, knuckles white.
Stay focused. Keep moving.
The city had long been evacuated, at least, that's what the media thought elsewhere. But you knew the truth. Many, like you, had tried to evacuate. But it was all too late, as the God of gold descended from the dark sky, gold lightning bathing the ground in its glow. The path of destruction soon followed. There were lucky ones who managed to flee and get to safety. Many did not. You were...a mix of both. You didn't leave the city, but you hadn't died either. You hid, hid until the sounds drowned from your skull, until the crashing, the roars, the screaming stopped. By the time you left your hiding place, a day later, driven by the pain of an empty stomach and a sore throat, you were greeted with your new city. Dirt and dust filled your lungs, making it seem like you couldn't take a breath, concrete and glass littered everything, and only a few lucky buildings managed to still stand.
The beast had been nowhere in sight.
You spent the entire day scavenging, filling the bag you took with everything you deemed necessary. The trek to the exit of the city - where the evacuation efforts no longer happened - was arduous. Your legs and knees ached, arms and hands burned from constantly finding your balance and lifting obstructions out of the way. You were so tired that even when you came across the bodies of the unlucky ones you couldn't find it in yourself too feel fear, or to cry. You moved on.
Your lack of emotion quickly changed the moment you neared the evacuation center. The skies darkened once again, bringing forth the memory of the day prior, and you ran as soon as you saw that gold lightening cut through the sky. You hid once again, not daring to leave as the ground shook with the beasts arrival.
Your memories blurred, but you knew not too try and approach the evac anymore. After trying another 3 times, each was stopped by the darkening skies and the three headed threat. It was like it was taunting you. Like it knew you were there, hiding amongst its destruction, perhaps watching you survive. How else did it know every single time you got near too the evac center? You must have been a little mouse to it, a cat watching its prey.
A few times now, the beast just decided too show up and roam. Knocking over buildings here and there, walking through the city, and even resting. All this was watched from a very safe distance, with the use of a camera to help you see better. You hated those days. Fear kept you from collecting food or water, forcing you to stay within a hiding spot until the beast left. You'd learnt by now to collect enough provisions to last long enough for any future visits.
Which is what led to you now; heading towards one of the shops you'd been scavenging from for the past few days, doing your best to use everything from this store first before moving on to the next. Today had already started weird, much to your dismay. The city already had a musk to it since the monster showed, but today it was different. You weren't quite sure how to place it, but whatever it was had you immediately on edge. Stepping within the store you quickly got to work, emptying the near empty shelf of food and swiping another lighter from the cash before making your leave. Familiar thoughts of wishing to leave filled your mind as you once again made your way onto the streets. No, it seemed the beast would never let you leave at this rate.
The smell got stronger, far more pungent. You cringed, raising a hand to cover your mouth and nose.
Your steps faltered when you noticed the absurd amount of shrubbery that had grown amongst the wreckage of buildings and streets in the direction you headed. You knew that these monsters had ways of affecting the environment, but this was not here a day before, and you figured things like this would take time. So how did it come to grow so fast?
It should've been your first sign of danger.
Pushing forward, you treaded the ground carefully now, intent to get to your destination. You needed more supplies - blankets, containers, tools - and there was a store not far from here that you were sure had those supplies, even if the building was unstable.
The shrubbery grew to be more intense, having more coverage of the surrounding area, and the smell got stronger. The ground shifting made you fall to your knees, hoping to stabilize yourself. A rumble that followed however made you shoot up, eyes desperately searching to find the source of such a sound. It sounded breathy, like it came from something alive. The skies stayed cloudy, but not dark.
And then your eyes found it.
Another beast, one that resembled a mammoth, vines and greenery littering it's massive tusks and body. It laid before you, what seemed to be so close due to how large it was. You hesitantly stumbled back, unsure of what to do. You'd heard of how the titans had become aggressive ever since the golden one had awakened them. Fleeing was your best bet of safety, but would your retreating steps awaken it? Would it bother to follow? You weren't sure, but quickly you tensed when it shifted, it's body angling in your direction.
