"But mom." My son whines. It always threw the humans around us when he called me that. But when he and his sister were born my family asked if I wanted to be papa or daddy and I said I wanted to be mama. They laughed but I got my way.

"I know, I'm a completely horrible parent for not buying you everything you want. Go find your sister and make sure she isn't stalking the sample trays."

"She eats like a lumber jack and is thin enough to be a zipper if she turned sideways and stuck out her tongue." He gripes as he walks away. he was just as thin but she ate twice what he did. I smiled and shook my head. I was just finishing up picking out groceries when I hear running feet and my kids come sprinting around the corner.

"Hey, you know better then to run in here like that." I chastise. The two ran straight to me and behind me. Both peaked back the way they came and I got a bad feeling. I hear feet and look up. A woman stood there, platinum hair, silk blouse and diamond ring. She was glaring at my kids. Stalking to me she straightens her spine and gives me a look down her nose.

"Are they yours?" She asks icily.

"Yes. Did they do something wrong?"

"Yes." She practically hisses then turns around to show me the liquid rolling down her back and rear. The silk blouse and expensive slacks were soaked. Pretty sure it was just water since it didn't smell.

"These are designer pants. This shirt comes from the finest boutique in Paris. Your brats have ruined them both." I was sympathetic until she called them brats. That lost her all goodwill.

"What do you think I should do to them?" I ask as she spins back around. "I'm thinking ice cream. Though they've been on a drawing kick. Maybe a new set of pencils."

"You propose to reward their bad behavior?"

"Well I was thinking of grounding them both, until you started name calling. I'd also been thinking of offering to pay to have them cleaned. Now I'm going to suggest you turn and walk away before I open the nearest jar and dump it on you."

"You wouldn't dare." I reach out to the shelf that just happened to have tomato sauce on it. Her eyes go wide. I smile at her. "I hope you like garlic."

"I'll be talking to the manager about you. You and your spawn will never be allowed in here again." She turns and strides away. I hear Mike and Julie behind me giggling. I turn and both straighten up and wince.

"Sorry mom. It really was an accident. Julie had a little cup of this flavored water stuff. That woman backed up right into her and the drink got spilled. It wasn't Julie's fault." They were twins and admittedly they stuck up for each other but they didn't lie.

"A little cup wouldn't get her that wet."

"Well she jerked around and stepped back right into the guy holding the cups." I stare at them both.

"Alright, I believe you. Did you try apologizing to her?"

"Yes. She started huffing and her face turned bright red so we took off."

"Alright. Well, while I'd love to see her go to Ian and complain and him to tell her off we are done so let's head out." Ian was an Alpha lion. I was a beta wolf. Even if the kids had been in the wrong he'd side with them over that woman simply because she was human and we weren't.

Once we're checked out and loaded into the truck I head for home. They were playing with a little travel checkers set. The little pieces had magnets to keep them on the board.

"Ha, I won again." Julie says. Mike snorts.

"Only because I was looking past you out the window. It's that woman." I glance over and see her getting into a BMW. "Why does such a rich woman shop at a place like this anyway."

"She's not as rich as she used to be I think." Julie says. They got to stare because I was stuck behind a car that couldn't back out right.

"What makes you say that?" I ask.

"Her shoes are scuffed, and coming apart at the heel. Her car has dings all over it. She was rich once but not anymore or her stuff would be much better." I let them keep critiquing her as we finally get moving.

When we got home they helped me carry in the groceries then ran off to watch TV. I'd gotten pregnant with the twins on accident. I'd been seventeen hoping for my mate and let my wolf have some fun. The father refused to mate with me. He sent child support but that was it. They knew who their father was. I hadn't lied when they began to ask questions. I didn't bad mouth him but I didn't let them think he was some mysterious good guy. More then once in life I'd wished that they had a real father. Like the old saying went, if wishes were horses everyone would have one.

"Mom, you going to make breakfast for us before you leave tomorrow right?" Julie asks coming into the kitchen where I was cooking dinner.

"Yes. My flight isn't til the afternoon. Amy will be over in the morning. She's staying with the two of you until I get back. Try to be good. Okay?"

"We will. Since it's summer and we've been good can we have dessert every night after dinner?" I normally only gave them dessert twice maybe three times a week. I chuckle.

"I bought ice cream sandwiches, neapolitan just like you two like. You may have one a piece each night after dinner, provided you eat all of your dinner. Now Amy is going to make some easy things like the frozen pizza's but she knows how to cook so will make good meals. I'll remind her that you two can't have soda pop after three PM. I prefer you two get to sleep at a decent time. No doubt she'll let you skate on lots of things. Don't take advantage."

"We'll be good." Julie sat at the table and laid her chin on her arms on top of the table.

"You okay?" I ask reaching for my glass of ice water.

"Yeah. It's just the first time you'll leave us here for more then a day or two. He'd never admit it unless asked but he's already missing you like I am."

"I'll call every night before you go to bed. It's the first time since you were born that I'm taking a real vacation. Aunt Sue is meeting me at the hotel. We'll be there for ten days."

"We went on vacation to the beach."

"Yes, as a family. This is a grown up vacation. You'll find the appeal of them when you are an adult."

"Aunt Sue says that if we are good for you she'll bring us each a present next time she comes to visit. We already talked about it. Mike and I talked about it, we're going to be good so that you can have a nice time on your vacation and not worry too much about us."

"Well thank you. This will be done soon. Grab your brother and go wash up." She nods and trots off. I could see that she was a little mopey. I was planning on making them waffles and bacon for breakfast. It was their favorite breakfast.

My sister Sue and I were almost two years apart in age but we'd been really close all our lives. She'd started on me about this vacation several years ago. I'd finally decided the kids were old enough to be left and I'd agreed. We were going to a cabin by a lake. Our cabin was right on the lake edge so we could go out and swim everyday. They had paddle boats we could rent to go out on the lake. Paths all through the woods and around the lake. The town we were near was actually a good size. She said they had two wineries nearby and a walking tour of the old part of town. I'd told her I'd follow her plan. It was vacation and I didn't want to have to make decisions. She'd given me a grin and said, finally I get to boss my big brother around.

We'd get to our cabin around dinner time. We were planning on ordering in dinner tomorrow night so we could relax and start enjoying our vacation. I know I'd worry about my kids the whole time but I also knew that I trusted them and Amy enough that I would be able to have a real vacation. Mike and Julie come in and without my saying it they started setting the table. Mike got the plates, and glasses. Julie got napkins and silverware. Bottles of water for each of us and they could pick juice if they wanted some. A small glass of milk was basically required. I served each plate from the bowls and pots I'd made food in and waited for them to sit.
