When seven year old Seoyeon thrusts a flyer for a father-daughter dance at her school into her dad's hands, Jisung can only think of one thing to say.
I'm fucked.
Of course, what he actually says in response to his daughter is nothing of the sort, and he instead tells her that the two of them can discuss it later on that evening.
Fortunately, Seoyeon doesn't argue and hurries across their apartment to her room so that she can change out of her school uniform.
While Jisung is granted an opportunity to cry for help, he calls the first person he thinks of who almost habitually picks up on the third ring.
"Heya, Sung."
"Changbin-Hyung, I need help."
Unfortunately, Jisung forgets that often with being a parent, his friends will typically jump to the worst conclusions.
"What, why, what's happened?" Changbin spits- the sofa he's sitting on quietly groaning as though he's ready to jump up and sprint out the house at a moment's notice.
"No! No, it's nothing like that, Seoyeon is fine." Jisung hurries to assure, chuckling despite himself in endearment at his childhood bestfriend's worry. "It's me who needs help."
"...Oh." Changbin replies, sounding much less concerned. "What's up?"
"Well, Seoyeon came home today talking about a father-daughter dance happening at her-"
Jisung doesn't even get to finish his sentence as Changbin's abrupt cackling cuts him off.
Holding the phone away from his ear, Jisung stares blankly at the wall, waiting patiently for his friend to stop laughing at his misfortune.
"Hah, o-oh, that's so good." Changbin eventually calms down, surely having to wipe tears from his eyes as a heavy sigh escapes him, "Is there any chance I can come as your plus one just to watch?"
"Hyunggg," Jisung whines, "I'm being serious. I don't wanna say no to Seoyeon, but you know why I'm stressing about this. Not only do I have to dance, but I'd have to do so in front of the other parents."
From the very first day that Jisung had enrolled Seoyeon into school, he could feel the confused glances from the other parents milling about after she'd yelled 'Bye, Appa!' before heading inside for her first long day.
At just twenty years old, Jisung had expected to be one of the youngest, but he hadn't expected to be the youngest by quite a large margin. And, almost four years on, Jisung still hasn't learnt how to engage with congenial small talk with the parents during drop off and pick up times.
In terms of dancing, however, Jisung would pride himself as having excellent rhythm- having mastered the art of clapping along in time with a song. But every time he seems to step onto a dance floor, it's only minutes later that he's tripping over his own feet and losing all sense of co-ordination.
Changbin says it's because Jisung gets into his own head too much. Hyunjin, the older man's boyfriend, meanwhile, thinks that his bambi legs and two left feet are positively unsaveable.
