The Han river never felt so still as it did today, for Sun-hee. She stared blankly at the still water beneath her, standing on the bridge.
The night breeze brushed past her, blowing her hair strands away from her face. The city lights softened her face into something almost unreal– a rare pearl.
Her hands held the railing behind her on either side, as she stood on the edge.
Any passerby would think of her as someone who is ready to jump and drown in the river– Suicidal.
She raised her head, shifting her gaze to the sky, a faint smile touching her lips.
Free,
She felt free, she heaved a deep sigh closing her eyes.
Something she can't feel until she is on the verge of dying, as she thinks. Usually she'd sped the car on the road breaking signals, almost getting into an accident.
At other times, she'd go to the highest building she could think of, and look down or a mountain peak– She has severe acrophobia.
No, she does not wish to die, not this early. She is yet to turn 30, it would be too early for her. All she wants is to feel free.
It was for the first time she stood there, on the edge of the bridge on the outer side of the railing.
"Finally," she muttered under her breath, as she opened her eyes.
Rolling her neck on her shoulders she noticed a presence a few meters away.
"Fuck!" she gasped, at the sight of the man who stood there nonchalantly swirling his canned beer in his hand.
He rested his arms on the railing, his back hunched, looking over the riverview.
"You startled me," She said, " Did I ?" He took a sip from his can.
He was dressed in a tailored black suit with straight-cut trousers and a long structured blazer giving him a sleek silhouette.
Underneath, there is a deep red satin shirt, first few buttons were unbuttoned at the collar, adding a reckless, almost seductive edge to the look.
The crimson of his shirt catching against the silver city lights, making the red stand out against the dark suit.
The black dress shoes are polished to a mirror shine, adding glamor to his refined appearance, while the loose posture and slightly undone shirt keep it from feeling too formal.
"You were there too?" She asked, as she kept looking ahead. "Uh-huh" He agreed, chugging his drink.
"How was the show?" She questioned again, "Entertaining," He answered. "Did you enjoy it?" Again, "For the first few minutes," He answered nonchalantly.
"Should I jump?"
"As you wish," He answered as he turned his back on the beautiful view, facing the road, his elbows still resting on the railing. His legs stretched out in front, feet crossed.
She stared at him, as he took another sip, face straight. Feeling her gaze on him, he shifted his gaze from the road to her eyes. The swirling of his beer Can continued in his hand.
He raised his brow at her, the corner of her lips curled slightly as she turned herself around. Now her back also faced the river, then she slowly let go of the railing.
Her eyes closed, just as she fell backward in the water. His eyes followed her figure, falling down the bridge into the water.
He placed the can near his lips, but then realised that it was all gone. Scoffing at it, he crushed the can, and strided towards his car.
The pearl white lamborgini opened its door upward. He sat inside and threw the can in the back, grabbing his phone and starting the engine.
"Where are you?" He asked just as the phone connected, "Go to Bampo Hangang Park," He stated.
"It'd be better, if you hurry," he added in a calmer tone. Fastening his seatbelt he hung up just as he finished his words.
01:01 , he eyed his watch before he drove off. It took exactly an hour for him to get to his house.
Upon arriving, he parked his car in his garage beside the rest of his collection. Punching the code he got in and locked the door.
Walking straight across the long hallway, he went straight to his bedroom and had a good shower for 30 minutes.
Coming out of the steaming bathroom, dressed in night robes he dried his hairs with the towel. Sitting on his bed, he opened his phone to check the notifications.
A new article popped up, "HEIRESS; THE DRENCHED CAT".
"They are too fast these days," he muttered. Before he could open and read it, his phone vibrated, the id said, 'Guk' .
He picked it up, "HYUNG!" The voice from the other side screeched. Flinching away from the phone, he cursed softly.
"What?"
"Sun-" the other guy sniffled, "Jumped into Han river," He completed the sobbing guy's sentence.
"KIM SEOK-JIN!!" another voice boomed from the phone, making the man squint his eyes shut.
"Let's talk about this tomorrow, Joon," he hung up and set his phone on DND.
He let his back fall on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind blank. Suddenly his lips curled a bit as he covered his eyes with his palm.
