The wind blew steadily as Finn walked through the forest. Nothing had been exciting for him lately. Not after losing his arm because his dad was a jerk. Jake had suggested Finn spend some time to himself on an "adventure of self discovery". He was just trying to get Finn to stop moping around.
A twig broke underneath his foot though he just ignored it. He'd been out for a couple of days and honestly didn't know where in Ooo he was. Maybe he just wasn't ment to be happy?
Coming to a stop ontop of a cliff Finn looked around with no clue who he was. He sat down and took his backpack off, with a bit of struggle. "I hate this." He grumbled hoarsely as tears started to form in his eyes. "Stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid." The tears started falling down and before he knew it all the emotions he had been holding in came out.
Finn lost track of time as he just cried. It made him feel weak and worthless. It was stupid. Everything was stupid. Lost in his crying Finn was unaware of someone approaching him from behind. It wasn't until he felt a hand on his shoulder he snapped out of it and screamed in surprise. The person pulled their hand back and held it.
It was girl. She had a gray tanktop on with denom shorts. Her belt was brown and had a cantina, a dagger, and a small pouch attached to it. On her feet she had boots that were light brown. Her was black and in a big poof on the back of her head. She had dark brown eyes that were almost black and her skin was a deep and dark brown.
"You were crying." She said gently. There was nothing judgmental in her voice infact it was somewhat worried. "Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah." Finn said as he whipped his eyes. "I didn't realize chocolate people could look so human like."
The girl blinked and sat down with him. She immediately started checking his nub of a right arm. "I'm not chocolate. And don't call me chocolate. It's weird." Her voice was somewhat firm but not mean.
"Oh." Finn muttred. "Uh, can you not tuch me?"
The girl stopped and looked at him. Tilting her head she squinted her eyes at him. "You're not from one of the settlements." She said before her head went back up straight and she held out her hand. "I'm Calida."
"Uhh, I'm Finn." Finn said as he shook her hand. "If you're not chocolate why is your skin so chocolate like?"
Calida raised an eyebrow. "Because of the levels of melanin in my body." She siad somewhat annoyed. "Are biased because of my skin or something?"
Finn's eyes widened and he shook his head. "No! I've just never seen anyone who wasn't made of chocolate with such dark skin before. But we're not in the Candy Kingdom and I don't know why any sort of candy people would be out here. PB doesn't really banish anyone."
Calida sighed. "We're both human, Finn. Have you never seen another human before?"
Finn blushed and got annoyed. "Yes! My jerk dad and a girl named Susan who live underground!" He was unnecessarily defensive in his reply.
Calida couldn't help the small smile that came to her face. "Okey." She said with a slight chuckle.
Finn looked away from her. "So what're these 'settlements'?"
Calida fell silent for a moment before she sighed. "There's an archipelago with a few islands in it. The main one being Founders Island...." Her voice trailed off for a moment. "Around two years ago the different settlements got into a conflict. My family and a few others fled a couple months ago."
"Oh." Finn muttered quietly. He suddenly felt bad for being so harsh with her. "I'm sorry about that...maybe I can show yous how life works in Ooo." He gave her a somewhat weak smile as he rubbed the nub that used to be his right arm. Some part of him was hoping she wouldn't notice. Even as he seemed to have a bit of confidence it was only when he was distracted and it hadn't returned to his voice.
To Finn's dismay Calida did notice his arm. A soft smile came to her lips as she looked at him. "And I can build you a new arm. We should have the parts for one back at the camp."
"Really?" Finn asked with a bit of hope in his eyes.
Calida stood up and held out a hand for him. "Yeah." She said with a smile. "I'm sure we have the parts for some sort of arm." The smile on her face was a little contagious and Finn found himself also smiling as he got up.
"Thanks." He said as they started walking. "And I'm sorry for calling you chocolate. That wasn't cool of me."
"Just don't do it again." She said with a nod. "And it's okay. You genuinely didn't know." They walked for a few minutes before reaching a small clearing in the woods. There were tents in somewhat of a circle with a makeshift fireplace in the middle. Humans with all different colors of skin were doing their best to work as kids around them played.
A man that looked a lot like Calida put a box down and grabbed Calida's arm. "Who is this?" He asked quietly to her.
She pulled her arm away and gave him the stink eye. "This is Finn. He said he'd show us how to live here. You don't have to be so suspicious of everything that we see, Gabe."
Finn waved with a smile. "Hi, I've never seen so many humans in one place before. I'm kinda one of the only humans in Ooo...well, until now." He seemed a little awkward but relatively harmless.
Gabe sighed and waved a hand. "Alright, I trust Calida. Just don't hurt anyone." The tone in which he spoke was firm but still held some kindness to it. Finn nodded with a smile. Calida grabbed his hand and started showing him around the camp. He listened intently. The tents were clearly high tech and looked easy to take down and put up. They weren't overly small either. Seeing all these new humans felt like a dream come true for Finn. Gabe watched his sister for a moment before a small smile came to his face at the small smile that had started to form on Calida's face as she showed Finn around.
