Everyone spoke about Alexander Laurent like he belonged to the night itself.

Untouchable, 'dangerous'.., and cold.

..I used to think people exaggerated.

Until the first time I saw him sitting alone under a tree reading a book, and he was always dressed in nothing but dark clothing mostly black, with eyes darker than the sky above us.

He looked like someone who had spent too long learning how to be alone, and for some reason, I couldn't stop thinking about him after that.

Maybe it was the loneliness wrapped around his shoulders like a second skin... or perhaps it was because, despite the cold expression on his face.. he just looked tired.

Not physically, though. Just.., emotionally..?

It was the kind of tiredness that came from carrying storms nobody else could see.

Sure, I didn't know his story, but I remember thinking:

' He needs a little light in his life '

I just never expected that life would throw us together so cruelly, because less than 24 hours later, I stood frozen outside my university dorm room while the dorm supervisor casually spoke the words that would ruin whatever peace Alexander Laurent had left.

"You'll be sharing this room together from now on."

Then it was just silence. the heavy, immediate and suffocating type of silence.

Alexander looked up slowly from where he sat near the window, the silver moonlight spilling across his face. His expression didn't change, but mine did.

"...You're kidding."

"It'll be alright. You'll both adjust just fine with each other." The supervisor said before walking away like she hadn't just signed my death certificate.

And behind her, the door clicked shut. And suddenly it was just me, two suitcases, and the most emotionally unavailable man I had ever met.

Alexander leaned back against his chair, his eyes were half lidded with what seemed like exhaustion.

"No."

I blinked in surprise. He just said it so suddenly it sorta took me off guard.

"Huh? No... what?"

"No talking to me. No touching my things. No inviting people over." His gaze then shifted toward me lazily.

"And stay out of my way."

Well.. that was kinda rude.

But, I stared at him for a moment before smiling anyway.

"Okay," I said lightly before stepping into the room. "But just so you know, I'm a very persistent person."

He looked unimpressed.

"I noticed."

I should've left him alone after that.. honestly, anyone else probably would have.

But every night, I'd catch him awake while the rest of the dorm slept. He'd be sitting beside the open window with headphones on and moonlight tangled in his dark hair.

Always alone. Always distant.

And little by little, I started wanting to know him. Not the version people whispered rumors about, I wanted to know the real Alexander Laurent.

So one night, after catching him silently staring at the rain outside our window, I finally said the thing that made him look at me like I was insane.

"You know, I could be the sun you need." I murmured.

Alexander turned slowly, then he laughed once. Though it was quiet and dry, almost mocking actually.

"You're too bright," he said. "It's really annoying."

The words should've embarrassed me, but of course, they didn't affect me at all. Instead, I grinned at him.

Because for the first time since meeting him, Alexander Laurent had actually looked alive.

And that's what made me even more determined than ever before.
