The air smelled of crayons, soap, and something faintly sweet from the small snack table. Children ran around the community hall, laughing and shouting, their shoes squeaking against the worn floor. Y/N wiped sweat from her forehead and adjusted the volunteer apron that felt too big on her small frame. Social work wasn't supposed to be easy — but moments like this made it worth it.
And then she saw her.
Scarlett Johansson, leaning against the doorway, hands folded, watching the chaos with an almost imperceptible smile. No cameras. No flashbulbs. No entourage. Just a woman who didn't belong yet somehow fit into the scene. Her hair fell loose, her eyes tired but alert, scanning every child as if they were the only ones in the room.
Y/N's chest tightened.
Most people would see a celebrity and think glamour, perfection, untouchable. Y/N saw exhaustion. A quiet vulnerability behind those famous features. And somehow, that made Scarlett approachable — human.
Their first conversation was nothing remarkable. Y/N offered to help with snacks; Scarlett smiled softly, quietly grateful. Then they shared a laugh when a toddler insisted on wearing a superhero cape over their school uniform. Words came easily, threads weaving between them without either noticing, soft and natural, not like the forced flattery people usually offered someone like her.
By the time the volunteers were cleaning up, Scarlett had lingered, watching Y/N organize supplies. Her hand brushed against Y/N's while passing a stack of coloring books. Light. Brief. Electric.
Y/N knew it was dangerous to notice her at all.
Scarlett Johansson didn't fall for volunteers.
The world would never allow it.
And yet, in that quiet room full of kids' laughter, Y/N felt the spark of something that could consume them both.
Some loves are forbidden.
Some loves are doomed.
And some... can't survive the light.
