Everything you need to know before diving in:
1. Elena Ward (née Stoyanova) was born on January 9th, 1983—making her two days younger than her husband, Grant Ward.
2. Elena is Bulgarian by birth (face claim: Nina Dobrev). She moved to the United States in 1998 at the age of 15 after the death of her parents.
3. Prior to the events of the series, Elena was stationed at the Triskelion. She is transferred to Coulson's team beginning in Episode 1x02 (0-8-4).
4. Elena and Grant met at S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy, where they were both trained under the same Supervising Officer: John Garrett.
5. Elena speaks seven languages:

English (near-native fluency, slight accent)

Spanish
6. While canon establishes that Grant speaks six languages, in this story he speaks seven, with Bulgarian being one of his strongest after English.
7. Although Elena is highly fluent in English, she prefers speaking Bulgarian whenever possible—one of the reasons Grant uses it just as often as English in private.
8. Elena's maiden name is Stoyanova. She and Grant married in 2010, three years prior to the start of the story.
