It had been two years since Jayei disappeared.
Seulgi had moved on. Or atleast... that's what it looked like. She stayed busy, gave herself things to focus on, things that actually mattered. From outside, it looked like she had moved on.
Like she had let it go.
But nights were different.
Sleep didn't come so easily anymore. Most of the time, she didn't even bother trying. Instead, she would sit by the window, phone in hand, scrolling through the same old messages she had never deleted.
Messages that stopped two years ago.
Her thumb hovered over Jayei's name—still saved, still there like nothing had changed. Sometimes, she typed something.
Where are you?
Are you even alive anymore?
Why did you leave me?
But she never sent it.
Because there was no one to receive it.
That's what everyone said, anyway.
"Jayei is dead"
Seulgi let out a quiet breath, staring at Jayei's number on her phone.
"No," she whispered into the empty room. "You're not"
She didn't know why she was still so sure. Maybe it was instinct. Maybe it was denial.
Or maybe...
Maybe it was the feeling she couldn't shake.
Like she was being watched.
And she wasn't wrong.
Jayei leaned back in her chair, eyes glued to her laptop screen. Multiple tabs open, multiple feeds scrolling, watching every move Seulgi made.
Two years. Two years of silence. Two years of watching.
She shouldn't have. She told herself that a hundred times. Maybe it was already too late—maybe she was already obsessed with Seulgi.
Looking over Seulgi's graduation pictures—she couldn't attend—Jayei's chest tightened.
She couldn't bare the pain anymore.
And now tonight, she decided to do something different. Something she had never dared before.
Seulgi's phone buzzed.
A text from an unknown number appeared on the screen:
Seulgi
Seulgi froze.
Her thumb hovered over the screen, heart pounding. Who...? she thought, eyes darting around the empty room.
She hadn't recognized the number. No area code, nothing. just one word: Seulgi.
Her mind raced. A prank? A mistake? Or... Jayei?
"No it can't be"
"Hello?" she typed back cautiously, then deleted it. No she couldn't sound desperate. She had to be careful.
The phone buzzed again. Another message.
Look outside.
