Chapter 8- A New Home

"Have a good night, Chris!" Ben called. "Make sure the animals are in their cages and locked up."

"You got it." Chris waved Ben goodbye and went back to cleaning his table. Once he finished he placed the cat and the rabbit in their cages. "There ya go, Lucky," he said locking up the cat's cage. "In ya go, Spade." Chris placed the black rabbit in its cage. "All locked up. Now then..." He grabbed all his things and was ready to leave, but when he walked out the door, he sighed, noting that he forgot to bring an umbrella. He lifted his hand out, catching some raindrops on his palms. He looked up to the dark sky. "It doesn't look like the rain will lighten up any time soon." Chris sighed.

"C-Chris..."

Chris turned his head towards the source of the voice. His eyes widened from the sight. Rhea stood soaked in the rain with her arms around a black cat. Her white shirt was covered with blood and the rain was making it worse. She looked really pale, like she seen a ghost, and she was shivering as well.

"Rhea? What are doing out this late in the rain? And why are you covered in blood?!" Chris asked.

"H-help," was all Rhea could say before collapsing to the ground.

"Rhea!" Chris ran to her side and picked her up. "Rhea?" Chris called again, but he didn't get any reply.

Chris bit his lower lip, trying to figure out what to do. Should he call the police, the hospital? No, Rhea probably wouldn't make it by the time they get here. He looked towards the black cat that was soaked up from the rain and shivering. So for now he decided to get out of this rain. He ran back into the cafe with Rhea in his arms and the black cat following behind. He laid Rhea down in one of the booths, taking off her messenger bag and ran to grab the first aid kit from the bar.

Chris came back with the first aid kit and a towel. He slightly lifted up her drenched shirt to see the red scarf wrapped around her. He unbind the scarf and saw the cut on her waist. He grinded his teeth at the thought of someone, anyone, hurting Rhea. Good thing he knows how to treat injured people. Once he wrapped up Rhea's wound, he took her jacket off and wrapped her up in a dry towel. Chris placed his hand on her cheek, he leaned down and kiss her forehead. Chris leaned back and smiled. He heard a meow and looked down to see the black cat.

Chris picked him up and looked at his purple collar. "Jet. Why hello there. I'm guessing you belong to Rhea?" Jet started to squirm and Chris let him go. Jet jumped onto Rhea's stomach and purred. "I'll take that as yes." He chuckled.

Chris walked away from Rhea and took out his phone. He went to his contact list and clicked call. He placed his phone against his ear and waited.

"Hello, Candace?"

"Hey, Chris! How's it going? I'm at Riley's party right now, you should totally come over," said Candace.

"Yeah I can't do that, cause I found Rhea in the rain with a stab wound in her waist."

"What?! That's horrible!"

"Yes it is, so explain to me how she could get that wound when you two seemed perfectly friendly to each other this afternoon when I last saw you."

"Wait? Are you accusing me of hurting Rhea?"

"Yes I am Candace, cause you were the last person I saw her with."

"I would never do anything like that!"

"Then why does she look almost dead?!"

"How should I know?! The last time I saw her was when I dropped her off at her... house..." Candace grew quiet.
