You've been walking in circles for the past 15 minutes. At first it was mildly embarrassing, now it's personal.
The campus map in your hand might as well been written in ancient hieroglyphs, and the building you are looking for Hall C, seems to exist everywhere except where you are.
Asking for help isn't an option, you should have prepared better for this.
30 minutes pass and you give up sitting down on a nearby bench outside the campus. The map is completely useless, considering you're already late for your first class not to mention on your first day. You sigh tossing the map aside and bury your head in your hands.
Suddenly you feel someone tap your shoulder, irritated you glance up to see a white haired boy, glasses slipping down on his nose and your map between his fingers, he looks a bit embarrassed before he firmly spoke up.
-Are you feeling alright? You look like you're about to faint.
You blink caught off guard, before slowly taking the map away from him.
-Uh, thanks I'm fine.
He nodded, hesitantly and not entirely convinced before pointing his finger at the map in your hands, his voice a tone softer now.
-You highlighted the wrong campus by the way.
Before you could respond he was already walking away, you turned the page realizing he was right.
Damn it.
You made it to your class, late but at least attended at all. You sat down breathless, everybody's gaze was on you. Your English professor looked up from his desk at you before speaking firmly, his gaze and low tone gave you goosebumps.
-Welcome. May I know why you're late and what's your name Miss?
You cleared your throat standing up from your desk and muttering sheepishly.
-I'm Y/N sir. I sincerely apologize for being late, I couldn't find my way over here.
The professor scanned you slowly, making you even more nervous than before. He nodded and scribbled something down in his big notebook.
Oh you're so screwed.
You sat down awkwardly, trying to shake off the nervousness and focusing on the class.
As the class passed you found yourself thinking about the mystery white haired boy, he looked a bit dorky but he did helped you after all, it would be considerate to thank him somehow. Maybe a sweet treat? Or something less suggestive and just a simple thank you once you pass him down the hall? Your thoughts got cut off by the sudden loud ring bell signaling the end of class. Everybody was packing their stuff when suddenly the professor called out your name.
-Miss Y/N.
The whole class went silent, everybody's attention on you and your professor, you waited nervously preparing yourself for whatever comes out of his mouth next.
-If you're going to make an entrance, at least make it on time.
You nodded awkwardly and humiliated in front of your entire class. How wonderful.
The second the classroom door closes behind you, the hallway noise feels too loud. Too bright.
Your jaw tightens, replaying professor's words in your head like a mantra.
"If you're going to make an entrance, at least make it on time"
Damn it, first day, first impression and you're already in trouble. You check your phone, but there's nothing, no new notifications, no calls or comfort. You consider skipping your next class but that would only make the matters worse, you don't want to fail the semester before it even starts.
You search for the map in your bag with much more force than necessary but can't find it.
Fine. Who needs directions anyway? You've survived worse, haven't you?
Next up is Literature, Hall F. Or maybe it's Hall D? Doesn't matter, just walk like you know where you're going, confidence is everything.
