~Dare~

Chapter 2 ~~~

         I didn't really take in what was happening. Everything was a blur. The police came and went, and I stayed up in my room reading my history book. The police came in my room to take samples, then they went outside to find the rock. They found it, then they left. And this was all inside 2 hours. I felt like I was in a trance. And for some reason, I felt like this would happen again. When it was all over, the time was 2:30 p.m. My mom would be getting home in half an hour. She worked as a dental assistant at the Westchester Dental Office. She really liked working there, and she said everyone there was really nice.

           My dad tried calling my mom to tell her about the police, but she didn't answer. She usually didn't because she was very busy, but still he tried. He left a message, then hung up the phone. "Well sport, what do ya say we go get some lunch?" my dad said. I didn't like the way he was so calm about things. The person that came in our house found a way in, and not by doors. When we checked the doors and windows, all of them were locked. We checked every single place, and not a scratch was to be found. And that scared me. " Dad, what if they come back? I really don't want to go," I said. He scratched his head. "Alright. But Lexi, I don't want you dwelling on this. It will be fine, I promise," he said. Did I tell you I have a history of temper tantrums? Well... " You have no idea what will happen, dad! None of us do! And why are you so freaking calm about this?! SOMEONE BROKE INTO OUR HOUSE!!!!! And you just go around acting like nothing happened, but something DID happen dad! They could have easily killed any one of us, and you want to go out to eat? Why are you being like this?" And by this time I was bawling. I ran up to my room and slammed the door shut. And I cried for half an hour. And my dad let me.

          It was 5:00 p.m. My dad and I had already ate supper. There was a silence throughout it all. I was comfortable with that though. My mom wasn't home yet. She hadn't left any calls at all. My dad called every 15 minutes. We were both starting to get worried. Then dad decided to drive down to the dental office. I stayed home. He was gone for an hour before I decided to drive down there myself. When I turned the corner to the office, I saw police cars. Oh. My. God. I jumped out of the car and ran as fast as I could towards that stupid building. I found my dad crying with two policemen around him. I ran up to him with tears already in my eyes. "W-what's going on? What's happening?" I started.

        One of the policemen came up to me. "Who are you?" he said in a husky voice. "I'm his daughter, now tell me what's going on!" I said. Why did everyone seem so slow today? "Ok, mam, follow me." So I followed him over to the dumpsters on the side of the building. I saw plastic bags with items in them. He put on some gloves and pulled out the first items out of the bag. "Your father said that your mother left the house with these clothes on today," he said. I put my hand over my mouth. "No..." Then he pulled out my mom's purse out of the other bag. "And this-" "NOOOO! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING! NO!! WHERE IS SHE? WHERE IS MY MOM?" I yelled. People turned to look but I didn't care. Let them look. "Mam, calm down. There is no easy way to say this... we don't know where she is. All we found were the clothes. There is a possibility that she has... been murdered, but there is no evidence of that." My world had completely ended right then. She might have been MURDERED?

           I walked over to my dad then and we sat there hugging and crying until we both fell asleep on the sidewalk in front of the place where my mom had gone missing.

Hey guys! I love this chapter. You guys have to know that I am making this up as I go along, now, though I have some ideas. It was really hard to find a way to end this chapter!  But I hope you guys still like it. Lexi's mom is missing! This is a HUMONGOUS spoiler, but.............. her mom isn't dead!!! Ok, that was a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE spoiler, but oh well. Thanks for reading!
