Chapter 06 (Part Two)

Varian laughed. "Still got plenty of time.

Varian had a point there, Nathan figured as he nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, point taken."

Varian had no idea what had gone through Nathan's head when he'd thought about playing with his fangs, but he was thoroughly pleased that he had. He knew his fangs were sensitive, to pain especially, but never had he thought about the pleasure they could bring.

The endorphin sacs running the roof of his mouth were pulsing in excitement from the attention his fangs had received, and he had to admit, that had been far more arousing than it should have been. Thankfully, he'd been smart with the blanket earlier, and it hid him from view until he calmed down.

Movement from Venerra's room drew his attention and he cocked his head in that direction. "Venerra's up."

Nathan raised his eyebrows. "Haven't seen her in a while."

"She'll knock in a moment." Varian said, watching the door. "Call her in if you want."

Right on cue, a soft knock on his door sounded, and Nathan smiled. "Come in."

The knob turned and two small hands clutched the door as it opened, shoulder length auburn curls framed a round face with two wide blue eyes as Venerra peered past the door at them. Her whole expression lit up as her eyes landed on Nathan and she smiled wide.

"Nathan!" she said excitedly, abandoning the door and leaving it ajar as she bounded over to the bed, scrambled onto it and threw her short little arms around his neck, hugging him tightly.

He laughed and hugged her back. Which just had Varian smiling. This was his family, and while three members strong wasn't very big, it was a whole lot more than just two. But family had him thinking about Nathan's. His was three strong as well, and his mother had wanted him and Venerra over.

"Hey Nathan?" Varian asked.

"Yeah?" Nathan asked back, glancing over.

Venerra pressed her face into his chest, grinning from ear to ear. She seemed really happy to have him back.

"When did your mom want us over anyway?"

Nathan ran his fingers through her hair absently while thinking. "Good question. I forgot about that. I should probably call and ask, but I'd imagine as soon as possible."

"I'd call her and find out then. I'm rather curious about seeing how your family operates."

Nathan shrugged. "We're not too interesting. No different than any other family, I guess."

"Different from mine."

Which was true. Nathan had his parents, one of them might be adoptive, but Eric was still his dad. And they both accepted him just fine.

Nathan stared back and blinked a few times. "No different than some families, then."

Varian's response was silenced as Venerra lifted her head from Nathan's chest and peered up at him. "We're going to see your mommy and daddy?"

"Yeah, they want you and Varian over for dinner." Nathan told her, looking down to her.

Her expression brightened and she giggled. "Yay! What are we eating?"

It was very hard to be upset around Venerra. Her bright spirits kept everyone in a good mood. But he was rather curious about the food. What did other people make?

"I have no idea. I'd have to ask." Nathan replied with a small frown.

"We'll find out when we get there then." Varian replied. "Surprises are rather fun sometimes."

"Not when it comes to food. I like to know what I'm eating ahead of time." Nathan commented.

It was understandable that someone would like to know what they're eating ahead of time, but Varian would rather prefer a surprise. If he didn't make it, all the better.

"I'm fine either way. Breaks from cooking are always welcome."

"I wouldn't know that joy. Considering I cook on a daily basis of, lets see, never."

Varian laughed, scooting to the edge of his bed and looking down for his shirt. Seeing it somewhat under the bed, he reached over, grabbed it, turned it inside in, and slipped it on.

Venerra turned around so her back was to Nathan's and leaned against him, tilting her head back to gaze up at him. "Nathan?"

Nathan looked down at her. "Hm?"
