Chapter 06 (Part One)

Start from the beginning

"She's not as expressive as Cana. But she has a big liking for Nathan."

Andre waited until Varian finished wetting down Epona, then started rubbing her down with the soap conveniently placed nearby, massaging and lathering her up.

"You're not very talkative today Text." Varian commented, moving to hose down Epona wherever Andre had finished soaping her coat.

Andre just shrugged and laughed, "Guess it's just an off day."

"I feel you there. Not the same around here since Nathan left."

"Yeah. I was on the phone with a friend from school last night, haven't talked to him since end of the semester." Andre replied.

"Friend huh?" Varian asked. "Got many of those?"

Andre seemed to be focused on a small spot on the horse they were working on, his cheeks turning pink in increments as he visibly fought a blush. "Uh, well just this one...I mean, I have more friends than him, but I-well I kinda...like him."

The last part was muttered quietly in embarrassment. Varian didn't get why, Andre knew he himself had a boyfriend. Letting it go, he shrugged.

"Alright. Have fun with that." Varian said, moving over to the next horse in line and starting to hose down the slightly shaggier coat of the bay gelding. He wasn't very big. Maybe fifteen hands at most.

The water from the hose was cool, and there was a light breeze for once, the sun coming down in hot rays, the temperature rising steadily. Varian wouldn't be able to be outside for very long today. Hopefully he'd have long enough to wash the horses and put them out before going inside to sleep.

He hated having to do that, but if he ignored the needs of his body, it would be harder on him.

Andre seemed slightly surprised that Varian just dropped the conversation. Varian couldn't see why, but by his appearance, he looked to be pleasantly surprised.

"Can't be out for very long today, getting too hot, so let's speed this up."

"So just these five, then?" Andre asked after finishing the last horse.

"We'll get the twenty four done, but we gotta do it fast." Varian replied.

"Alright."

And with that, Varian worked faster, trying to beat the heat. He wasn't sure how well he could do that, but he'd try.

Tuesday. And according to his schedule, Nathan only had two classes today- 'Basic Math' and chemistry. He wasn't entirely sure what 'basic math' meant, but he was looking forward to chemistry.

College classes were much different than high school classes. He went to math at nine, and was in there for fifty minutes. But chemistry didn't start until two, and it went on for an hour and forty minutes. So by 3:40, he'd be done for the day.

Thomas, after spending two days with the guy, was exactly how Nathan described. The worst parts of Evan and Justin mixed together into one body. It could be worse though, he supposed.

He'd taken some Ibuprofen before class- as a precaution- and was now making his way to the classroom. It didn't take long to get there, maybe five or ten minutes before he was walking into the room. It was pretty big, and reminded him a lot of an auditorium. It was a semi-circular room with stairs on either side of the room, and long, tiered desks. Nathan hummed quietly to himself, walking into the room further and choosing a seat near the middle, noting that the chairs were attached to the desks. They swiveled out, so you could sit down, but they didn't touch the floor. He sat down as more people started to file in, glancing around and looking at the front of the room.
