failed ritual

Kaira

One, two, three, four, and five. Perfect—everything was already in place, all the candles set. Now all that was left was to make the pentagram...

You're probably thinking that what I'm about to do is complete madness. But I needed to communicate with my father. I wanted to summon him, to have him alive again...

Determined, I grabbed the red lipstick from my makeup bag and began drawing a pentagram on the floor of my bedroom. It looked more like a soccer ball with a star in the middle, but oh well.

I picked up my phone and checked once again the ritual website for "resurrecting the dead" that had popped up on my TikTok. It said the following:

Once you have the pentagram with the five-pointed star inside a circle and have placed the candles, you must light them and leave a container with a bit of your blood in the center of the star. Finally, stand in front of the bowl filled with your blood and say the following words three times with your eyes closed.

Lofem lokido Zarek moito

Feeling a bit unsure about all of this, I grabbed the bowl I had prepared on my bed and placed it on the floor. I also took one of the sharpest knives I had and took a deep breath.

Once I do this, I'll be calm. Everything will go perfectly, and Dad will be with me.

The knife trembled in my hands. I was about to back out, but a memory came to mind—one from when I was little.

In the memory, I was in my dad's arms. I had short brown hair, unlike now, when it reached my waist. He rocked me in his arms while sitting on my bed, singing me a song I remembered very well, one he only sang to me when I was scared.

It was Blackbird by The Beatles.

That gave me the strength to continue, and I quickly cut the palm of my hand. For the first few seconds I felt nothing, but then a sharp burning sensation shot through my hand.

—Owwww, it stings!—I complained out loud while bandaging my hand.

The bowl had filled up about two fingers deep. This should be enough. I went to the center of the star and placed the bowl with my blood inside it. Then I lit the candles and stood right in front of the container, just as the instructions said.

—Now what was I supposed to do...?—I thought out loud while checking the website.

You've got to be kidding me. This phrase looked like a hieroglyph.

I took a breath and went for the first attempt.

Loprem nokido Zanek moto. On to the second attempt.

Loikem loquito Zarek mountruo. This thing was definitely impossible to say.

I glared at my phone angrily and reread it mentally about a hundred times before saying it out loud for the third time.

Finallyyyyy. It took a lot, but I said it. I focused on the ritual to see if anything would happen, but the more time passed, the more desperate I became. This was faker than my—

Suddenly, the candle flames went out, and a chill ran down my spine, making me jump up in a panic.

—I knew this stupid ritual crap wasn't going to end well— I tried to open the door, but the handle wouldn't turn. I was getting really nervous and started screaming nonsense.

—God, I swear if you get me out of this I'll buy you chocolates and whatever you want!

Out of nowhere, a red circle began forming in the middle of the star I had drawn. A portal.
