WARNING! LOTS OF BLOOD AND FIGHTING

"The first time I met Hawkfrost, it wasn't in the Place of No Stars; it was in a field with flowers and sunshine and stuff like that. He . . . he flattered me; he seemed interested in what I could do, not what my sister could do. No cat has ever treated me like that in this Clan. I'm just your shadow here." A silver and white she-cat sobbed.

A pale gray she-cat hissed, "That's not true, Ivypaw!"

"But that's how it felt! You can't blame me, Dovepaw, for listening to Hawkfrost, for wanting to learn all the moves that he taught me." Ivypaw responded.

"No cat is blaming you." Dovepaw sighed.

Ivypaw narrowed her eyes to slits. "Are you sure? Lionblaze and Jayfeather don't trust me. Maybe they want me to go back to the Dark Forest and stay there!"

Dovepaw flattened her ears. "Don't be ridiculous! Can't you see that we need you? Without knowing exactly what's going on in the Dark Forest, the prophecy is useless. You got your wish: You're the special one now."

Ivypaw blinked. "I wish that were true."

Dovepaw rested her tail on Ivypaw's shoulder. "But it is. And I think that we could be all that stands between the Dark Forest and the end of the Clans." Suddenly she looked tiny, huddled into a crouch with the snow banked around her.

Ivypaw didn't speak for a few long moments, before talking in a cold, harsh voice. "I'm done being you shadow. Go tell Jayfeather and Lionblaze I won't be their spy. I'm going back to the Dark Forest, and I will train even harder to be one of them." She stalked off after that.

"Ivypaw, wait!" Dovepaw cried, running after her.

"I'll show her. I'll be the greatest warrior the Clans have ever seen. I'll be more important than Dovepaw, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather combined!" Ivypaw curled in her nest to re-enter the Dark Forest. I don't care that they used me, because now I'm one of them! She woke up in the Dark Forest. Mapleshade looked up from where she was bathing.

"Where did you run off to? Did you go home crying to your Clanmates?" She sneered

"My Clanmates are here, in the Dark Forest." Ivypaw replied.

"Wise answer little one." Mapleshade smiled.

Firestar stood on the highrock looking down at Ivypaw. "Ivypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do." Ivypaw's voice shook as she lied. None of them suspected anything, though. Dovepaw glanced at Ivypaw, with hope in her eyes. You fool! I owe nothing to these mange-pelts. I'll kill them as soon as the Dark Forest is ready to take over. Ivypaw thought.

"Then by the powers of StarClan," Firestar went on, "I give you your warrior name. Ivypaw, from this moment you will be known as Ivypool. StarClan honors your courage and your loyalty, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan." Taking a pace forward, Firestar rested his muzzle on the top of Ivypool's head. She sneered at the thought of being a full warrior.

Dovepaw was named Dovewing, and when the sun fell, they sat their silent vigil.

Ivypool went to her nest after dawn approached, eager to get back to training with her real Clanmates.

"Please don't go back to the Dark Forest!" Dovewing pleaded.

"I left the Dark Forest." Ivypool lied.
