POV- JAMESON WINCHESTER HAWTHORNE
The note arrived today morning.
Jameson. Do not come after me.
- Avery.
I read it. And reread it. No one stopped me.
I've been at this for hours now, but I don't care. I don't care about anything... but her. I promised her. I told Heiress that i'd die to protect her. And what did I do? I'm alive, and as sane as I can be with her gone. But Avery? She... she's in danger.
I know it.
I can feel it just like I can feel every breath she takes, feel every subtle curve of her lip and feel every dam* thought that flows through her mind.
My skin is threatening to crack, my voice is hoarse and my eyes are blurry. I've never really cried but when it comes to her, my eyes contain more water than can be found in the ocean.
Memories and pictures fill my mind and I lose my consciousness.
Depression rolls off me as I collapse to the ground.
A water bottle is emptied onto my no longer handsome face. I don't care. I can't get up anyway. She was always the steady one.
"Kid. If you care about her, you'll get up." This time, Nash wasn't calm. Even he couldn't keep up with his nonchalance when his brother's and his wife were broken. He was nothing less than that himself.
With great difficulty, I pushed myself up, only to stumble again. Nash's grip was firm on my shoulder.
I pushed away from him. Avery's note was still in my hand but it was damp with tears.
I held it up to check if the message was still there but it was replaced with something else. Invisible ink. I didn't even try to smile as I read the new message.
PRAGUE- MURAL. TODAY AT 6:00.
- Heiress
My heart started to thump at a million miles an hour. Faster than it did when I was I was on a race track, faster than whenever I jump off a balcony or stand at the edge of a cliff. Every beat simmered with hope and I was ready to soak into it.
"This could be a trap." Nash drawled.
"I don't care. I'm going."
Even if this was a trap, this was worth it, for Avery. I'd rather bow down to danger than stand in my room, waiting for Avery to come. Prague it is. The place we keep circling back to.
No matter what it does to me, I'm willing to take a very risky gamble, for Avery.
