Kris fell onto the hard wood of their floor. Orange-gold light filtering through the trees out back. After dusting themselves off, they closed the window behind them with a soft thunk. And they walked over to the cage, doing what they had been dreading all night. They took the SOUL out of the cage, held it in their hands for a few seconds, and shoved it in. Their thoughts started getting cloudy, their control faltering. They laid down in their bed and tried to sleep.

"Kris, wake up, the festival is today! You don't want to miss it like last time, right?" Toriel's voice... Her voice, it was some comfort for now. They felt as they got out of bed in a stiff motion, as they have for the days before, their will no longer theirs. Control, no longer theirs. They went through the door and to the hallway. But they noticed something, they were checking stuff again. (They always do this, they're acting like they are revisiting an old home).

They make their way out to the living room, where Toriel is waiting.

"Are you dressing up for the festival?".

Their mouth opened against their will, they spoke without their input "Yes.".

"Oh! Let me grab clothes for you then!" Toriel then went upstairs to grab some clothes. A sense of relief washed over them, they won't have to wear this same stuff for the fourth day in a row. Toriel came back down holding a green sweater with a yellow stripe, and a long light brown skirt Kris was planning to wear to the festival even before the SOUL burst into their life.

After they finished dressing, they prepared to go out, at least they got a good bit of sleep after last night. Going out into the all familiar bright sunlight, they started the walk. At least they want to go here. At least they aren't being forced like usual. As they passed the apartments, they noticed Susie leaning on the wall of Sans' shop.

"Oh. Hey slowpoke, what took you so long? I was about to go without you. Let's go".

They started the walk to the festival grounds, not that far, set up near the lake. They just needed to take a path through the forest to get there. Kris always felt slightly better near Susie, like just being with her made this all more worth it, at least that's something they can look forward to.

As they walked, Susie talked about what happened last night.

"Kris, I know this isn't the best time to talk about this, but it's just been nagging me. I know we won't allow it to happen, but... what if it does? What if we can't change the prophecy? Please, just promise me you will try your hardest to make sure that DOESN'T HAPPEN... please."

They spoke once more without wanting to. Yet they did want to say the words spoken. "I Promise.".

"Thanks, Kris, sorry. It's just like, why her, why does it have to be her..."

They think about that, they wish they could just comfort Susie, but no. The soul won't allow that...

Kris and Susie stopped as the smell of fried food and sugar hit them, along with the sounds of running rides set up by the wandering carnival for the festival "Well, either way, we're here, the Festival. Let's just get our minds off it for now. Hey, how about I win you the biggest prize here later? I bet you it's gonna be real easy."

They made it to the center of the festival, where the fun stuff and food are, and they noticed Noelle sitting over at a picnic table eating alone. Susie called out to her "Hey! Noelle, why are you eating alone? Do you not have anyone to bring?"

Noelle, in a wistful tone, says, "Yeah. I didn't really know who I was planning to go with. (Well, I was planning to go with you, but you waited for Kris all day)".

"Oh. Well, why don't you join us? It's better with you here." Susie responded.

Noelle, a bit surprised, said, "Of course! Well, what do you want to do first, we could go try to win prizes, go on some rides, or just eat, anything is great!".
