It'd been hours since Chase had read each heart shattering text from his friends, but they still clung to his mind relentlessly.
Simon: "So like...are we still a band, or nah? I don't think drumming's really my thing anyway."
Danielle: "I'm sorry how things ended with the band and all, but I get you had a lot going on. I just need a day or two to process all of this, I hope you understand!"
Ross: "Look man, i know its not really your fault, but i just need some space. I hope we can still be friends after this."
Nox's message was the worst of them all.
All of Chase's apologies showed up green. No response to any of them.
Who knew it would only take one night for his whole life to blow up in his face?
He gripped the steering wheel tighter.
If you cry again, the car will crash.
"Are you sure you're okay with this? I know Mom and Dad can be...a lot." Deacon asked tentatively from the passanger seat.
"Yeah, I..." Chase swallowed the lump in his throat. "I want to visit my parents. We can leave after that."
"If that's what you want."

There they were, standing on the doorstep of the house Chase promised himself he'd never set foot in again. He knew exactly what was coming.
"We told you this is how it would end"
"You should've listened to us and got a REAL job"
"You've done this to yourself."
"You have no one to blame but yourself."
He hesitated before knocking dejectedly on the hard wood. He braced himself when the door opened, unable to meet either of their eyes, but the barrage never came. For once, their 'I told you so's died in their throats when they saw Chase's dull, empty eyes.
"Welcome home, Deacon!" Aunt Beth moved forward to hug her son.
One insult came through, though.
"And Welcome back, Charlie."
Charlie.
'Thats right. I guess I'm not Chase anymore. I'm...Charlie Hollow. Pop star wannabe. The joke of Sugar Springs, and the disappointment of the Hollows'

"Hey dad. Hey mom. I'm sorry I haven't visited in a while. I've been... busy." Charlie sat down in front of the two grave stones. Myra and George Hollow. They were buried right next to each other, making visits convenient. He placed a bouquet in front of both of the stones as he continued.
"I'm sorry I had to turn out this way. Aunt Beth and Uncle Dale always said a music career was going to be a mistake, but no, I had to go a-and try to prove them wrong, and...and....-hic- you guys would be so disappointed in me." He paused to wipe his eyes. "You both raised me better than this. I'm sorry."
"Also, Deacon says hi."
