"You...You really think I have such power?" I asked, feeling completely baffled about what they might be planning by telling me all of this.
"Yes, my child. And you are destined for great purpose many years in the making."
At this point, I was starting to get incredibly annoyed, almost certain that this would prove to be nothing more than them spinning such blatant lies just to make fun of me this entire time.
"Do you think I'm an idiot or something? There's no way any of this can really be true! I was actually right the first time and you're just doing this to mess with me, aren't you? Let me guess. Michelle Carlton paid you to do this, didn't she? That damn bitch saw me at the venue and decided to rub it in my face, didn't she? Maybe my truck running out of gas was all part of the plan? What? Did you drain my tank or something? Go on! Admit it already! Just know that if that turns out to be the case, you better believe I'm coming after you for damages!"
Even as I continued on with my loud rantings until my eyes had even filled up with angry tears, I still had a feeling of confusion swimming around in the back of my mind because, even now, the older man had that same calm look as he listened to my frustrations.
Once I had eventually run out of breath to the point that I was practically panting, Lord Davenport looked me right in the eye as he himself opened his mouth to speak.
"I have told you all that I can about our current situation. But if you truly believe this is nothing but a mean-spirited prank, then there's nothing more to say. I apologize for keeping you here for so long. And if you will please follow me, I would be happy to show my remorse by offering you one of our guest rooms where you can rest until the weather clears up. There is also a landline in each room, so you should be able to call for a tow service as well. You did mention you were having trouble getting a signal on your personal phone, correct?
He then proceeded to stand up, only to be immediately stopped by his nephew, both of them now sharing a curious look that I couldn't understand. No matter how long and hard I stared.
Because of this, I found myself having to wait as both men walked just out of earshot and began a short discussion amongst themselves.
This went on for a few minutes before they seemed to have come to some kind of mutual decision as they both walked back over the sitting area where I myself still sat.
"I know that I said that I would lead you to your room. However, I forgot that I have another meeting with the other elders. So, instead of myself, Julian here will be the one to escort you. If that's alright with you, of course."
Due to how he had been treating me, I wasn't really thrilled about the fact that I would be all alone with the same irritating asshat who had been making my life hell and pushing my buttons from the moment we met.
But, even so, it just didn't feel right to just regret such a generous offer, and in the end, I gave in and simply nodded my head in agreement.
I then let out a resolved sigh as I stared at the younger man in question, only to see that he was now giving me an admittedly charming smile and holding out a hand to me. Though, I did openly snub the offer since I was still pretty upset about his behavior towards me all this time.
So, while I really rather wouldn't, I indeed ended up following Julian out of the room. But unfortunately, I was soon now forced to spend several awkward minutes being led through the halls by a total jerk until we eventually came to a stop outside another surprisingly simple wooden door.
He then proceeded to open the door itself with an old-fashioned metal key that he pulled out of his pocket. One that I noticed was on an identical key ring that had been used by the head maid when she had taken me to the baths before.
