"HVOEVI! HVOEVI!! Oh man.. where could he have gone?" The figure breathed out, practically shaking where they stood, "He couldn't have gone far, right? We've only been gone for 10 minutes!" their breath dissolved into the cold air of winter, boots fading in and out of the snow below.
The other figure huffed, they're notably taller than the other. "Why do you even care so much about him? Hvoevi is nowhere to be found and we've been searching for how long now!?" Its tone was bitter, breaking apart. "Face it, Iborv, he's gone. He's gone and he's not coming back. Not for us."
The snow stops crunching, footprints stop being burned into the snow as Iborv stops and just.. Stares. They stare out into the field, washed over with an untouched blanket. "..Hvoevi wouldn't just leave us like that. I think that's something you refuse to get into that thick skull of yours." Their voice cracked, cracking like the pot he dropped that day.
"If you think he just left us, left the love we gave him-- the love I gave him. Out of the blue, just in the blink of an eye. I'm afraid we'll have to part ways, Evmlnlfh." The shorter shadow nearly collapses under their own weight. "It's better for both of us. We promised to keep him safe, to love him unconditionally. And you failed to do just that."
Evmlnlfh's face twists into one unrecognizable--blazing with unfiltered rage. A murder of crows swoop overhead, flying into the distance. Evmlnlfh's voice snaps, "You think I didn't CARE for him? ME. His only family left, the only one who helped him out of all that rubble? Listen to yourself, Iborv."
"You only gave him what he needed to survive. I treated him like family."
"What do you know about family?!" They hiss, shoving Evmlnlfh away. "You don't know shit about family! All you know is how to push people away, insisting you're saving them! like you think you're an all-seeing god!!" Iborv backhands Evmlnlfh, yelling whatever they can at him. While the other yells back.
One argument after the other, it's all the same.
For him it is, at least.
They never change--well--never tried to change.
Their yelling rumbles through the halls, the clatter of objects giggle through. Hvoevi sits in his room, snacking on a yogurt bar and some chips. He tries his best to block out the yelling with toys, music--anything really. Not even his thoughts can block it out though. Maybe they're arguing over him? Their status together? About what happened?
He can't get close enough to listen, muffled names, something about..'leaving' ...or 'again'? He can't quite catch it, not that he'd even want to. He was 19, being dragged up the stairs with broken legs. Why hasn't he left yet? He's old enough to leave yet--Evmlnlfh is his only family. He can't just leave Evmlnlfh behind and start a new life. Can he?
Maybe it's for the best.
His eyes dart around his room, landing on the window. Broken and crumbling just like Iborv and Evmlnlfh's empty relationship. He pushes it open with the strength has has left, body creaking just like the window opening. It cuddles into the outside air, wind whistling through. It's just 8ft down.
the sound of trees hurdling forward in the breeze soothe him gently, edging him forward just like them. Orange light smears around his body, painting him like an angel reaching out for the clouds. a crow passes by, the flow of its wings push him closer.
I'll be fine.
He falls to the ground with a thunk, warmth spreading throughout his legs and hands. He feels weaker than before. No one's around to help. No one heard him fall. He eyeballs a cracked open sewer drain, steam pouring out of it. Perhaps this is his escape, painted dead--breath swimming over the drain--while the only people who tried helping were fighting over a pea.
A new beginning
for me
and only me
