As the sun rises over California, Tora is the first to wake up. Her ice blue eyes roll over to you as she stands up and gently shakes you.
Tora: God morgen, min venn.
[Good morning, my friend.]
You suddenly shift in your sleep, clutching your sheets. Extending your bare arm, you mimic a stabbing movement. Tora steps back knowing what you can do. Opening your eyes, you look around in a panic only to calm down, breathing slowly.
Tora: Bad dream?
Y/N: Too common nowadays.
Tora helps you up.
Tora: Well, you're with a friend now. If that helps.
Y/N: Somewhat. We just met, and you're overwhelmingly friendly.
Tora: Yet I'm genuine as can be. I crossed paths with people like that too. They weren't exactly shining knights.
Y/N: I'm glad we can agree on that. So if we're roommates, there's some things we gotta talk about. What's your story?
Tora looks into your eyes with a certain shock.
Tora: You want to know my past, don't you?
Y/N: Considering that you know all there is about mine thanks to Blonde? We've all come here for one reason or another without any Good Samaritan deeds under our belts.
Tora: Are you sure? Things weren't as peachy for me in Norway as child. But here goes.
Tora steadies herself after she inhales and exhales.
Tora: My parents and brother were Romanifolket, and my grandfather was the head of a small sect of our people. the Is Bygd. We could all control ice. I was born with these powers and considered a princess among my people, always being conditioned to stay calm to control my metahuman abilities to create and manipulate all forms of ice. And... to make sure that my grandfather couldn't find me. He, like the rest of my kin, thought I was the second coming of the goddess my people worshipped, but he took things too far.
Y/N: Wait, what? What was so bad about him?
Tora: Everything. My parents told me when I was 9 that he wished to force me to use my power to keep control over the other Bygds, and the wish to eventually ruin Norway's government through me after they wrongfully killed my grandmother. I couldn't stomach hurting innocent people. My grandfather tracked me down and, after I saw my parents and my brother all get gunned down alongside my people being bombed out by grenades, I... closed my eyes. Yelling. And I... I-I lost it. When I opened my eyes and saw the dead bodies of the men who tracked me down, all 20 of them were skewered with ice.
Y/N: Jesus.
Tora: None of them lived. It didn't take long for Norway's counterpart of the SDN to find me, and give me a roof over my head. They exiled me from Norway and to America. Even if what I did was self defense, my government needed an excuse to get rid of a kid who had no control over her powers.
You lean over, patting Tora's back.
Y/N: You weren't at fault, Tor. Neither were your parents. When it comes to people like your grandfather, we do this job for a reason. To shut their shit down.
Tora sniffles wiping a tear from her eye with her forearm.
Tora: You're right, Y/N. And... thanks for saying that.
Y/N: You're welcome.
You stand up offering her a hand. She takes it.
Y/N: Aren't you friends with another hero? Fire?
