Before the war... before I knew anything... I was actually just a regular teenage girl. Now don't think I'm being cliche, because a lot of stories start out like this... I'm not... proud of what I have done from this point... when I found out... I feel like there is so much I could have avoided... so many red flags that I could have seen. But this is why I'm telling the story. History you might call it... and why you don't see the supernatural you could say. Nothing out of the ordinary happens in your life, right? Well, I'm the reason why... Gah where do I start? I guess from the beginning... Oh but I hate the beginning... I suppose you won't understand if I don't though. This will bring back hard memories for me... so I'll do the best I can.

"Lily! SLOW DOWN! YOU WANT TO KILL US?!" Ida said as she clutched onto the sides of Lily's little snowmobile, her teeth clenched and her face rosy, red from the cold. Her teeth slightly chattered and little bits of snow started to cake onto her clothes and jacket. Tears sprung into her eyes and she quickly closed them, trying to hide her face in her big sweater. Her best friend Lily, always drove her snowmobile to school, actually, a lot of kids around here did. Ida and Lily lived high in the mountains where no one dared to go, and cars were not really an option. The roads were never visible, and everything was always coated in a thick layer of ice and snow. Nothing grew there, and to shop for produce you had to make your way down the mountain some bit, where everyone sold veggies and fruits from their garden further down below. Lily was quite reckless. She had always been that way. She didn't pay attention in school, and her grades were always low. What Lily needed though, was a little lesson in being aware, because she somehow always missed the obvious, and trusted some characters that she probably shouldn't have. Ida, was more of the voice of reason. Though Lily's best friend, she was the complete opposite. Her grades were always perfect, and she paid special attention in class, always obeying her parents and doing as she was told to the best of her ability. She still loved Lily though, despite her cluelessness. She thought it was her job to keep her... alive you might say. Since she was so reckless and some would even call, hopeless. But whenever she agreed to get in her snowmobile, her protection wore thin, especially on herself. "LILY! TAKE CORNERS A LITTLE SLOWER! WE ARE GOING TO FLIP!" Ida yelled shaking from fear, her eyes wide. "Oh, come on! I do this every day at this speed! I haven't crashed yet!" Lily yelled over the roaring engine. "UH, SERIOUSLY!? YES, YOU HAVE!" Ida protested. "YEAH, BUT I WASN'T HURT BADLY!" Lily argued poorly. "WELL ONE DAY YOU WILL! AND YOU MIGHT EVEN END UP DEAD!" Ida screamed at the top of her lungs, getting multiple stares by passerby's. "OH, LIGHTEN UP A BIT! PLUS, WE ARE LATE! WE NEED TO GET THERE WITH SPEED..." Lily said swerving quickly down a passage through the snowy woods. "YOU MEAN YOUR LATE..." Ida answered with irritation. "Yeah, but you're with me... so your late too now." Lily said with a smirk. "BECAUSE OF YOU!" Ida yelled in Lily's ear, making her cringe and swerve off the road some, almost hitting a tree. "You almost died so many times I can't count Lily, and I have had to be the one to tell your parents what happened, EVERY SINGLE TIME!" Ida yelled, biting her tongue from shivering. She suddenly tasted the unpleasant taste of blood in her mouth and felt even more irritated. "Well, you could just go without explaining... ever thought of that!?" Lily yelled, raising a brow. "You mean lie." Ida said crossing her arms. "Possibly. If it came to it." Lily said with a shrug. "Well unlike SOME people, I have a conscience, and mine says LYING IS WRONG." Ida yelled as both their heads collided and Lily took a sharp turn, almost missing it because she wasn't paying attention. Lily quickly f licked the kill switch and the engine stopped immediately, the wheels slowing down to a holt as she forced her foot onto the break. Her teeth clenched, her heart raced. She actually might have done something seriously bad... and this time, her conscience bothered her. The snowmobile finally stopped, and Lily quickly looked over at Ida, her head was over the dashboard... and she was completely limp... "IDA!" Lily yelled, shaking her aggressively. What if she had just killed her? Or given her a concussion? What if she loses her memory because of her! These thoughts taunted Lily till Ida swiped away at Lily's hands, swatting at her irritated. "Quit! Just stop! I'm fine!" She yelled, sitting up slowly. "Are... are you ok?" Lily asked, anxiety building in her chest, her heart being tugged on by invisible strings. "Yes, I'm fine... I just hit my ribs on the top of the wind shield... and I couldn't move for a second." Ida said dusting herself off and realizing the vehicle was still, taking the opportunity and getting out as fast as she could. "You didn't hit your head? YOU DON'T REMEMBER!?" Lily said frantic, her eyes crazed. "Uh... no. I did hit my head... I hit it directly on yours." Ida said feeling squeamish. Lily calmed down a bit, her shoulders less tense. She looked up at her and examined her from a far... she seemed ok... "Well, uh... we got here on time!" Lily said pointing to the schoolhouse in front of her. "Now that you think I was hurt... you won't be driving like that again?" Ida asked nervously. "Uh... can't make any promises." Lily said with a shrug, exiting the vehicle. "I swear Lily Sangster..." Ida said rolling her eyes and shaking her head. Lily ignored this. "Better get inside! Last one in is a rotten egg!" She yelled as she ran up the wooden steps. "Ok I might be mad... but not so mad I'll turn down a race." Ida said laughing as she pushed past Lily and got inside first. "What can I say. I have always been faster." Ida said with a shrug, relishing in her small victory. "You do cross country... so its really not fair." Lily said, giggling. "Pish posh, beat you to the classroom!" Ida said running inside as fast as she could. Lily tripped on herself as she tried to hurry inside after her, but a small, old voice made a noise below her feet... Lily stopped in her tracks, her mind trying to retrace the sound frantically. "Down here child." Lily's neck snapped down at her feet as she stared at the wooden beams in horror. "Under the deck... under!" An old woman said in a raspy voice. Lily bent down and squinted through the cracks in the deck... and as sure as hell, she saw eyes beaming back at her. She gasped and stumbled back, falling off the deck backwards and onto her neck. She quickly saved herself and flipped backwards in the snow so she wouldn't break her neck. She stared at the deck shocked, wondering why an old lady would be hiding under there in the first place... "Come here child... I need your help." The lady said putting her hand through the stairs. Lily stumbled back again, afraid to talk to this stranger. She had enough sense at least, to know when she was in danger, but a little old lady? How could she be dangerous? Obviously, she had never heard the story of Little Red Ridding Hood... "Help?" Lily asked skeptically. "Yes child... I need your help. But you alone." The woman said hurriedly. Lily looked around herself... "I really should be going... I'm late for school..." She responded to the shadowed f igure. She couldn't make out her face in the darkness... which frightened her. "Just really quick child!" The woman snapped, her hand waving Lily over like she was a disobedient dog. Lily slowly stood to her feet and walked over. She bent down to the woman and tried to see her face again... but all she could see was her silver eyes. "You know Mister Clink, right?" The woman asked. "Um... yes... he's, my neighbor." Lily answered cautiously. "Well, you must stay away from him at all costs..." The woman said darkly. "W... why? Mister Clink is a good man! And he's helped me and my friend a lot of times when we needed it..." "That's what he wants you to think. He is trying to get on your good side... get all buddy, buddy with you." The woman said scornfully. "And why would you say something like that? Do YOU even know Mister Clink?" Lily asked in his defense. "Yes... that's why I need your help. You know his daughter?" The woman asked eagerly. "Yes... Avery." Lily answered, her brow furrowed. "Well, it's not his daughter at all..." "WHAT?" "She's my daughter... and he has stollen her from me..." "What do you mean!?" "He is hiding her from me... I want to at least see her... I want to at least know where my baby girl is..." The woman said, tears lining her voice. "Why though? Why would Mister Clink do that?" Lily asked, her heart aching. "He thinks I'm dangerous! That I don't need to be around her because I'll hurt her! But I never have! I never would! He took her for no reason, and now I'm trying to find her again... are you close to her?" The woman asked, getting all emotional and blowing her nose. Lily shook her head. "No... I've barely met her ma'am. She's a lot older than me and graduated, we don't have that much in common." Lily said sadly. "Do you know where she is? Maybe you could help me out..." She answered quickly, not a tear in her voice any longer. Lily drew back. "I don't know... she moved out not long ago... I have no idea where she went." Lily answered poorly. "You must know! I need to see her!" The woman said grabbing Lily's jacket and pulling her closer. Lily drew back. "Look I will try and find her... ok? But right now, I got to get to school..." Lily said standing up as she tried to leave, dusting the snow from her pants. "WAIT! If anything,... just don't trust him. Ok? I would hate for something to happen to you to... the brain washing... its horrible." The woman said sorrowfully. "B... brain washing?" Lily asked horrified. "Yes... he will try and tell you things of worlds unseen... you can't trust it. It's all lies." The woman said grimly. Lily shivered as the poison seeped into her brain... distorting her judgement. "Ok." She answered softly. "Now get to class... I wouldn't want to cause you more trouble than I already have." The woman said sadly, her voice lined with guilt. "No, its... ok ma'am. After class I will go look for Avery." Lily said kindly. "Thank you, child,... you have no idea how much this means to me." The woman said sounding relived. "Of course." Lily said as she made her way up the stairs carefully, running inside before the next bell rang...
