Half-bloods man, you don't wanna be one. And as my brother said 'don't read this if you are one of us, being a half-blood isn't fun, it gets you killed in the most nasty, scary and gory way, just believe whatever lies your family told you about your life and birth, it isn't worth the powers, don't continue if you feel something stirring, cuz if you do and figure out who you are, they will too, and they will be hungry...
'Kay, that's ominous enough, let's get going
I'm Elliot Huskins, I'm 12, and study sixth grade in Yancey Progressive school, with bean bag chairs, and Non-standardized tests (my absolute haven). Today was the last day, and every year we go on a field trip. This was no different. After this trip, I will be stuck in a dorm for 6 months before this starts all over again, little did I know I was not coming back. The place was called the Metropolitan Museum of Art so ya, boring, kind of think, 2 buses filled with mental case kids, around 56 of them, and only four chaperones, no way they can handle this.
Anyways, before we get filled into the bus we go through a regular day, the only thing different is that we watch movies instead of actual lessons, so that's fun, our science teacher and principal, Dr. Thorn, put on Oppenheimer, he'd pause and show us the inaccuracy in the movies, then our Latin teacher, Peter Johnson put on some Latin movie with English subs, didn't really need the subtitles, our history teacher Annie Bell put on some documentary and I slept half way through, then there was our English teacher Miss Beier, she is the b-word, she stretches out her S, as if she's hissing, and she decided for her class there would be no movies, no nothing, just a grammar worksheet to do, like ma'am wtf?
Well, after that nightmare of English class we filled into the auditorium, where I met up with my friend Bekendorf Smith, I'll call him Beck for my wrist's sake and because he likes being called that. He removed a chess set from his bag and we started playing. We got weird looks from the other kids, but we didn't care, as for how I played? Badly, I could never defeat Beck in a straight match, I won once, in all the times we played, and that was because I would hide the pieces when he wasn't looking. There was one person intently looking at us, no, not looking, staring, literal daggers into the backs of our heads, I knew who it was. Her name's Lisa Dodds, she has a hard crush on Beck, Unluckily, Beck didn't notice, so I was the mediator, telling her about Beck and all, she doesn't let me tell Beck at all, I don't why she is so worried. We get on the bus, Beck hands me a book, I don't like it, with my dyslexia messing the words and all, but that's the only entertainment I have, since we can't play board games on the bus. Beck and I sat at the front next to the teachers to avoid bullying. Well now is a good time to mention Mr. Johnson and Dr. Thorn have some kind of rivalry, they glare at each other as if they were nemesis or something, other than the staring contest nothing interesting happened on the ride. We reached the Museum safely, we got off and got handed pamphlets of what we were going to do. I thought my dyslexia was acting up when I read the page, I was sure that wasn't it, because the page wasn't in English, it was in Greek, Ancient Greek, and I could read it, clearly, I looked at Beck, he was just as pale as me, then at Lisa, she was reading it as if nothing was wrong, and so were the other kids, me and Beck acted as we weren't affected, the paper said,
'This is a test, if you can read the Greek here, you are one of us, please stay with Ms. Bell and Mr. Johnson, they will keep you safe.'
Ya so my brain was on full overdrive, our History and Latin teachers were apparently secret agents from some organizations and they were protecting us students from something. And as expected I didn't pay attention to anything that was being told during the field trip, my mind making up scenarios of something attacking us, and, also with my ADHD I lost track. Because of that, Beck, Lisa and I ended up with Dr. Thorn.
That's when he started changing. His head getting lower, his front arms turning into Lion paws and his tail, it was pure black as if it was absorbing light, there were spikes at the end and when we moved a little, for some hope to escape, he dashed them with those spikes, and he threw them fast, I couldn't even see it.
'Finally, I have you cornered, I will feast on some half-bloods, and even Percy Jackson is not here' His voice hadn't changed, he still mutilated the Js as he spoke, but he didn't look like Thorn, except for the face.
That's when Mr. Johnson, or, as Thorn called him, Percy Jackson came in, he struck at Thorn's flank only to be parried, wait, was that a sword? I turned to Beck who was just as pale as me, but Lisa is rummaging through her bag,
'Make up's not gonna help now' I blurted out
She gave me a look that was between anger and fear as she pulled out another sword, longer than Percy's, no way it would fit in her purse
'This would have been better shown in camp, but we don't got the time' with that she joined the fight with Percy, trying to attack Thorn's weak points, making opening, acting as bait, anything to kill this creature.
'You had Artemis, and then Dionysus saving your skin, now you are all alone Percy' the Thorn creature roared 'how will you win NOW!?!?' then it yelped , a cut appeared near his stomach, deep enough to bleed but not deep enough to finish the job
'Curse you, Daughter of Athena, And where in Hades is the Dracne' Just then the air shimmered and Ms. Bell appeared holding a blue Yankees' Baseball cap in her hand 'Corpse Dust, Just like you will be soon' I turned to Beck, 'do you know what's going on?' He nodded, 'not completely, but Mr. Johnson and Ms. Bell are apparently children of Greek gods, hence the Daughter of Athena remark, I don't know who is the father of Johnson and that thing, Thorn, is a Manticore, even with all that, I don't know what to do, I'm blank' I nodded and we ran, ran from the fight and hid behind some pillars, looking at our guardians fight this monster.
They were clearly outmatched, the thing had experience (not in years but centuries) and would not fall so easily, his tail and hind legs avoided the invisible attacks from Annie Bell, and the front snarling and fighting Percy and Lisa, no matter what you say, they fought way to good, as if they have lifetime worth of experience. Finally something happened, Lisa stabbed him, but he didn't turn to dust(thats what is supposed to happen, isn't it?). He bit her and ran off with her, Annie and Percy ran after them, but they returned alone, we came out of the hiding spot
'we are sorry, we were so scared and we thought we'd just come in the way and cause unwanted casualties' we were a mess of nerves. Luckily, they were calm and Percy came to our level, his eyes green like oceans, calming, powerful but unreadable
'Hey, its okay, I ran away too, it's never a good idea to fight without experience, you both need that, come with us, there is a summer camp for people like us, they will prepare you to save your friend, and she can handle herself for a while, I'm sure Chiron will lend us a quest to save your friend, and with the new camp director, it will be even easier.'
Obviously, I stared at Beck as if I was talking to a madman, probably it was true, but with the Manticore and losing Lisa, I looked back and nodded, sure she annoyed me, but she was nice, and didn't bully us, so I wanted to save her.
Miss Bell came in and Percy turned to meet her 'Annabeth(so that's her real name), what did Chiron say?'
She sighed, 'He told us to bring the two half bloods and that we will send a quest to find Lisa, He's sending Argus'
I took a deep breath, and tried to summarize what was happening to me 'so Beck and I are special kids, who have monsters gunning after them? You are also one of us, and have come to take us to this camp that will train us to fight them, and we will have to get a quest to find our friend, and some Argus dude is coming to pick us up?'
Annabeth and Percy both nod, and I sit staring at the floor waiting for this Argus fellow.
Argus came in a white van with a logo of Delphi's Strawberry service, weird this is a camp too, we got in and I saw Argus, he was a surfer dude, in a blue suit, and blonde hair, but the weirdest thing, his eyes, they were blue, that was normal, it was the number of eyes, there were so many, few on the back of his hands, one on his neck, multiple on his face, I could bet 20 dollars his mouth also had one, but he wouldn't show me and I didn't want to see it either. I didn't talk during the ride, and neither did anyone else. Staring at the passing scenery was painful, one of our friends is missing, the world should be cold and dark, and I came to the conclusion that things were gonna get serious.
