Hemlock Potter had done what had been demanded of her since she had first stepped foot inside the Wizarding World. She had defeated Voldemort, sacrificing everything to stop the mad-man. In the end, she had walked towards Death with arms wide open, ready to embrace the entity like an old friend. After the life she'd lived, where breathing felt like a chore and her soul felt heavy inside her body, it didn't feel like an ending; it felt like peace.
But then she'd been given the choice of whether to go back and continue fighting or to move on. She wouldn't have been able to bear it if she had done so, knowing she had left those she cared for behind to pick up the pieces of the mess Voldemort had started. Besides, who was to say even if they did somehow kill Nagini, that they would be able to defeat Voldemort if she stayed dead? The prophecy stated that neither one could live while the other survived. Did that mean if she decided to stay, to go on and reunite with her mother and father, Sirius and Remus, Tonks and Cedric that Voldemort would survive purely because she had been selfish? She couldn't risk it.
She went back, she fought like hell, and she defeated the snake-faced bastard, but things didn't change after that. There was no 'happily ever after' or light at the end of the tunnel for Hemlock Potter. She should have realized that by now.
When called to Gringotts to go through her accounts and to take ownership of her Ladyship rings as well as all of her vaults, properties, etc. she learned through doing a blood test that her mother, Lily Potter, had two-half sisters in the United States. It turned out that their father had been married before he had met their mother, but he had met Iris Bushwick on a business trip and fell madly in love upon first sighting her. He left his first wife and their two daughters and pursued Iris, where they then married and had a family; Petunia and Lily.
After much internal debating and fighting with Kreature, her new House Elf now that she was Lady Black, she decided to move across the pond to Mystic Falls, Virginia, in hopes of connecting with her relatives, unknowing she'd be walking from one supernatural warzone straight into another one.
